Travel Guide Chachapoyas

Quiet city, as if dozing, under mild temperatures (annual average 15 °C), Chachapoyas opens to tourism. Chachapoyas is the capital of the culture of the same name and the center of the Amazonas region immensely rich in archaeological sites and natural wonders, the city itself is rather small with its 30 000 inhabitants. Located at 2334 meters of altitude, it is a pleasant visit but situated on a promontory at about 30 minutes from the main road along the Utcubamba river, it is not necessarily the ideal place to visit the region. We would advise you to spend a night or two there to visit the nearby surroundings and then sleep as close as possible to the places you wish to visit, in the heart of a rather amazing nature. Note however that the guided tours in international groups with Spanish-speaking guides (English is still a bit slow) all leave and return from Chachapoyas. The discovery step by step will be more possible with a private driver or a good sense of resourcefulness. The city comes alive during its many festivals, such as the carnival, the Semana turística (June 1 to 7) or the Fiesta Patronal Virgen de Asunta (August 7 to 15)
