Fort Lauderdale takes its name from Major William Lauderdale, who built a fort there in 1838, a time when tensions were very high with the Seminole Indians. The city of 182,000 inhabitants, located 48 km north of Miami, offers vacationers another aspect of Florida: distinguished, peaceful, preserved... Its 400 kilometers of canals have earned it the nickname of Venice of America. We advise you to visit the city by boat. Among the things to do: stroll on the River Walk, relax on the 37 km of beaches or discover the many parks and museums. Fort Lauderdale is also a leading city for the gay community.
