This destination is synonymous with a dream vacation! Hundreds of kilometres of beaches, amusement parks, nature parks, wild parties... nothing is missing. So it's no wonder Florida welcomes sixty million visitors a year. Tourism is the main source of income in this southeastern United States state, which is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. If its capital is Tallahassee, Miami is much better known, a mythical city rich in Latin American cultural influences, artistic vitality and nightlife that compete in luxury in the upscale South Beach district. In Orlando, there are about ten huge theme parks to choose from, the most famous being Walt Disney World Resort, which alone includes four theme parks and more than twenty hotels. Nature lovers will go to other parks, natural ones, including Dry Tortugas on the Keys Archipelago, seven islands at the end of the world in the turquoise waters that delight divers, or Everglades National Park, a gigantic subtropical mangrove swamp that is home to a rich birdlife. Florida also has 30,000 lakes and more than 100 protected natural areas, orange cultivation and Kennedy Space Center, home to the aerospace and military industry, and above all 300 days of sunshine per year. Within the Sun Belt, a sunny belt, this state does not only attract tourists. It is highly sought after by companies, wealthy businessmen and wealthy retirees. Consult your tourist guide for more information!

When to go to Florida?

It is advisable to travel to Florida between November and April. It is the dry season: temperatures are not excessive, air humidity is lower and mosquitoes are fewer. The hurricane season runs from June to November. Temporary showers occur almost every day, making the atmosphere already hot (about 35°C) and very humid. Mosquitoes are then numerous. In winter, the mild temperatures make the region a magnet for crowds of retirees. The period is ideal but there are many people and prices are at their highest. In summer, you will have to withstand temperatures between 30°C and 40°C. Mosquitoes are abundant in some areas. In August, there is a violent storm almost every day and it is also the season of devastating tornadoes and hurricanes. To fully appreciate Florida's charms without too many people, it is better to stay in spring or autumn... Spring is magnificent (especially April and May). The air is warm, the humidity still bearable and the vegetation is in full bloom. In autumn, the vegetation turns red and golden, the temperatures are pleasant, the humidity measured.

It is a destination that really does not pose any problems for the autonomous visitor. Take an air-only flight to Miami or Fort Lauderdale. On site, rent a car and compose your trip as you wish. Do your accounts regularly. You spend your savings quickly in Florida.

Urban transport is very affordable and taxis are not very advantageous. But as in the rest of the United States, the ideal is to have a car. In the Keys or Miami, a scooter is fine. In Orlando, most hotels offer shuttles to the parks and the city's bus network is well designed. Taxis are much cheaper than in France but Uber is even cheaper! Uber has offices in all major cities in Florida, but not in Key West.
