The city of Venice has long remained a small fishing port with charms reminiscent of its Italian counterpart. Its economic expansion dates back to the interwar period, but the city has remained modest: less than 24,000 inhabitants. The downtown area, Historic Downtown, is devoid of imposing buildings and is very pleasant with a multitude of small addresses, including several French ones. Unusual: Venice is nicknamed the shark tooth capital of the world. As surprising as it may seem, you will indeed find many fossilized shark teeth mixed with the gray sand on the beaches of Venice Beach or Carspersen Beach
