This small coastal village is famous for its natural assets, Cathedral Cove and Hot Water Beach. Its coastline has been classified as the Te-Whanganui-A-Hei Marine Reserve, and its good addresses make it a great stopover. Its population doubles in summer, making it one of the country's most popular tourist destinations. Reservations are essential if you want to stay there! Cyclone Gabrielle severely damaged the area in 2023, causing flooding, landslides and falling trees. The Department Of Conservation (DOC) is redeveloping the trails leading to the area. Some sections may be closed to the public.
