With its 1,960 inhabitants, Coromandel is a must on your tour of the peninsula. You'll make the loop via the SH25, considered one of the most beautiful roads in the country, skirting the sea at less than a meter in places. It's also from this Town that you can head north, where the most beautiful scenery is to be found (unpaved roads). Renamed afterthe HMS Coromandel, which came to take kauri, the area boomed (local population 10,000).
