A quarter of an hour from Agrigento, the town of Porto Empedocle developed thanks to trade, first with the construction of a cereal silo as early as the 15th century, then with the development of the port facilities in the 18th century. It is a modern city and the fishing for monuments is rather meager. However, the famous 15th century silo with its two defensive towers, which now houses a cultural center, is worth mentioning. It is in this city that the superb Scala dei Turchi (stairs of the Turks ) is located. The sea and erosion have rolled the cliffs which are of a brilliant white. You can reach it by a small path, hardly visible, which starts from a hamlet: Capo Rossello. A haven of peace, a corner of paradise. The ideal place to spend a relaxing day. This port is also the starting point for Linosa and Lampedusa by boat, there are adequate parking lots to park your car the time to go there and back. Finally, it has given to mankind great men: Empedocles the philosopher, the poet and short story writer Luigi Pirandello and the contemporary writer Andrea Camilleri.
