25 km from Agrigento, it is the domain of the Princes of Lampedusa. Giuseppe Tomasi, the author of the Cheetah, used to live there. The city was founded in 1637 by Carlo Tomasi. The ducal palace, called "Gattopardo", was built between 1653 and 1659. It was there that the devil forced the nun Isabelle Tomasi to write the mysterious Letter to the Devil that is kept in Agrigento. In the monastery of the cloistered Benedictine nuns of the Holy Rosary, founded in 1657, the famous almond cakes "Mandorlati del Gattopardo" are made according to age-old recipes. In the distance on the hill, the fortress of Montechiaro (16th century) watches over you.
