RUTA DEL AZAFRÁN

Spanish restaurant €€
5/5

At the beginning of the very pleasant paseo de los Tristes, on a terrace with a wonderful view of the Alhambra or in a room in a rather pleasant post-modern setting (wooden parquet floor, raw tones, and furniture with straight lines), this renowned address, from the opening at the end of 2004, serves a sunny menu with the scents of the three cultures (Christian, Jewish and Muslim). Here, every day, a demanding international clientele follows one another in search of a special moment... In the kitchen, Al-Andalus' culinary heritage, reinterpreted and updated, takes on an air of harmonious and imaginative experience in terms of both presentations and flavours: coconut wolf fillet, chicken pastilla, bluefin tuna tataki, sea bass turban and zucchini, prepared rice, lamb couscous or rabbit stew. Valid for the East/West charter! Brought to the table with dynamism, this fine and quite original cuisine will be accompanied by crus picked in a wine cellar at the right temperature, among an interesting selection of local references and organic wines. Don't miss out on homemade desserts like rum cake with mascarpone cream and coffee mousse. All this to be enjoyed especially in the evening, to have, icing on the cake, a magnificent view of the illuminated Alhambra.

ESTRELLAS DE SAN NICOLÁS

Mediterranean cuisine restaurant €€€

This address has everything to seduce. A privileged location, difficult to do better, in a family house of the great flamenco flamenco Enrique Morente, the sublime views on the Alhambra for moments of romance, and a kitchen to travel in the Mediterranean with the good Andalusian gastronomic products. Around a trend patio, a reception hall tradition, in the plates of the dishes elaborated (salmorejo, exotic salad, apples on apple crumble, duck at pedro ximénez) and some suggestions. The wine list is in agreement with the proposed kitchen. The pig of milk candied, mashed potatoes and jumped from cocoons to harissa sauce is worth the detour.

EL TRILLO RESTAURANTE

Spanish restaurant €€

In the maze of streets of the Albaicín between Mirador de San Nicolás and San Juan de los Reyes, this is an address that deserves a good reputation, and rightly so. From the outset, we appreciate the cozy and intimate atmosphere, the garden terrace, a haven of peace, or a nice living room with fireplace. Culinary specialties combine Andalusian products with some know-how and always concern the presentation: artichokes with ham, gambas and wine "palo cortado", boar accompanied by rice and mushrooms (risotto way), cod at plancha and beans, Iberian bacon and beet purée, and finally pork filet in its juice and cedar sauce. Not to mention homemade desserts. A good cellar with references from the province of Granada and Spain, as well as a service always to the smallest care, will complete a painting that is more than exciting.

TABERNAS SALINAS

Spanish restaurant
4.8/5
4 reviews

Near Plaza Nueva. Who doesn't know Salinas taverns doesn't know Granada! All generations combined, they are renowned for their typical Andalusian specialities and their neat, classy and friendly surroundings. Part bar/restaurant, the pretty decoration gives pride of place to the nicely lit woodwork and red bricks. Solomillo de buey (beef fillet), presa ibérica, secreto ibérico (piece of Iberian pork), revueltos de morcilla (scrambled eggs), rabo de toro (bull tail), tabla d'embutidos (sausage board) are among the sure values of this house at the various branches in the district. The cuisine of the day also provides the joy of tasting charcoal and paella meats. Cured meats, smoked meats, canned food, pâtés and para picar cheeses (for pitting) also provide snacks. A certain consistency in quality and good atmosphere.

The old tertulia del Rinconcillo where, once, intellectuals including Federico García Lorca met for literary cafés, is a classic among classics.Despite the disappearance of its historic chef Antonio Torres, his Andalusian cuisine with arabic influences maintains its fame in rustic lounge or summer terrace, very pleasant. As example of dishes on the menu: remojón granadino (cod to orange presented in an original way in reversed bowl), delicious foie gras with Pedro Ximenez and candied apple bed, then tasty bull tail or solomillo of ternera nazarí (fillet of veal with grapes at). The whole Spain is in the wine at very affordable prices. You won't also neglect the tapas at the bar, including the hilarious small shrimps (quisquillas) of Motril. And places displays its supporters: an incredible collection of photographs of the Master (and his two sons) posing with a multitude of celebrities of the world of politics, show business (Placido Domingo...), sport (McEnroe, Maradona...), Nobel Prize or even the astronauts of Discovery.

You will discover this restaurant while strolling through the narrow streets of the Albaicín and you will surely appreciate what constitutes its major asset, a very nicely decorated and shaded Andalusian patio, in which it is pleasant to take refuge during the hot hours. Other pluses, a friendly welcome, a varied menu and generous portions. We advise you to try the papas a lo pobre, one of the specialities of the Alpujarra region.

A little away from the Sacromonte with a good terrace and panoramic panoramic views of the Alhambra and Generalife gardens, since 1977, this charming little street has attractive culinary assets… The servings are not only copious enough, but the dishes are prepared with care (family kitchen). The sequence can take place in this way: salad of refreshing roasted peppers, tortilla del tortilla, chops milk chops (from the fireplace in winter), pisto de (from the nearby Market). Nothing exceptional but everything in a super frame with fireplace (for the winter), an authentic and sometimes musical atmosphere in the middle of the insider.

At the corner of Calle Rejas de la Virgen, behind the Mercadona supermarket, its naturally clean and elegant setting, with numerous windows allowing external visual contact, all immaculate white, wooden floor, without excessive decoration, a piano in a corner, always attracts a clientele well on it. Installed on stools on the terrace, at the counter or on tables, it can be shared with some seafood, fish dishes or essential Andalusian dishes (salmorejo and solomillo) well presented and prepared and served with care. Exactly the type of address "modern and noble bar", up to the toilets with hammered copper sink, to be exchanged on social networks.

In 2012, Pepe, the owner, opened this dynamic table in place of the old Nostrum bar. In a small friendly indoor room or on the terrace, with high stools, you can enjoy cordovan and grenadine specialities such as bacalao albondigas, cod balls; prawns with leek cream; Trevélez ham, one of the best in the Alpujarra; faux-filets with Jimenez pedro; or the great house specialty, croquette au boudin, to try absolutely. A guaranteed treat, not to mention the rather enjoyable wine list! Welcoming and efficient staff, all in a good general atmosphere.

TABERNA CASA ENRIQUE

Spanish restaurant
5/5
1 review

Be careful, mythical place. Here you enter a tavern founded in 1870 and occupying the rank of number three of the oldest tavernas in Andalusia, also known as el Elephant, whose effigy you will see at the entrance. Originally, it was used as a supply point for the stagecoaches on their way to Madrid and in 1911 it passed into the hands of Enrique Martínez, the current owner's grandfather. From the simple sale of granel wines accompanied by a little cold meats, it has gradually become a reference in the field of tapeo, and would have been frequented by García Lorca himself. While the building that housed this Enrique house was destroyed in the early 1990s, the tavern has been rebuilt as it was originally. Even today, it remains in its juice, with its collection of eclectic objects, its photos of the many visitors and its old wine barrels, still present. The opportunity to take a step back in time by tasting a wine from the Granada or Cadiz region (more than a hundred references) in the small bar area, accompanied by Iberian charcuterie, homemade anchovies, organic tomatoes or very good local cheeses. If you are lucky, you will be accompanied by a flamenco song, sung by one of the guests.

EL CLAUSTRO

As its name indicates, this top-of-the-range restaurant opens its terrace on the cloister of the Santa Paula Palace and its beautiful columns and warhead arches, occupying the old library of its convent. Invested in cooking and management, the young Andalusian chef Juan Andrés Morilla, well noted by his peers with a title of best cook in Spain in 2009 and participation in the Bocuse d 'Or, gives his vision of the new Andalusian cuisine. Here he opts for creations or renovations of traditional recipes in tasting portions: esthetic salmorejo, oysters with gin tonic and cucumber pearls, sturdy sturgeon on stuffed toe and small suppers, merluza to mussels and mushrooms, cochinillo (milk pig) on reduction of potatoes, segureño lamb, strawberry soup Vanilla… Beautifully presented, original and creative. For his market cooking with avant-garde notes using good Andalusian products, the author brought some sauces, a touch of butter and attention to foie gras, and the rest of Spain a certain know-how. Highlighted by a ceremonial service, the ensemble is more than satisfied with a range of good breads, not to mention that wine, tasting is accompanied by careful selection of the best regional names, all of Spain (Alicante, Galicia, Ribera del Duero, Rueda, Rioja…) and the whole world.

LA BODEGA DE ANTONIO

Many fresh fish and seafood specialities for this extremely pleasant address, mainly frequented by locals, around the plaza trinidad, and connoisseurs. The daily menu, with good Andalusian and Galician cuisine, is served on the patio and two dishes are undoubtedly worth a visit: pulpo gallego and salads of aliñadas lettuce. Logically, it will really have to be spent at the very beginning of the week and in the evening, because the rest of the time, the restaurant is always very full.

Just a few steps from the Alhambra Palace, more than its new, yet sophisticated Andalusian cuisine, its exceptional view of Granada and the Sierra Nevada has made its reputation. The glass gallery of its rustic room or the pleasant green terrace of this Carmen allows you to enjoy a permanent spectacle. It is best to come in the evening, when the city is illuminated to be served by hotel masters, always good advice about the good dishes of the day (well presented using puff) and the wines of the region, the most interesting. A good note!

BODEGA CASTAÑEDA

Spanish restaurant
4.2/5

THE historic tapas bar in Granada! Located in a typical place (very close to plaza Nueva), it is always worth a stopover! Its long room and long counter are always very animated by cheerful waiters and a clientele composed of locals and tourists alike. The dishes to share are monumental, the preparations and sandwiches (bocadillos) are satisfying, and a cup of tapas is always offered with each glass. Among the sure values are the inimitably bitter vermouth to be completed with gin and the homemade gazpacho, delicious! The one that was malfemous, we are told, during the 1980s, continues to be an essential and timeless institution with an atmosphere that remains as fascinating as ever. It should be noted that, less relevant, the second address Antiguas Bodegas Castañeda (C/ Elvira, 5), which offers a little more solutions for sitting down, has not been under the same management for some time now.

This former tavern (1917), moved near the town hall to Plaza Nueva and then a little further down recently, has a bar on the ground floor (with terrace) and a more elegant lounge on the first floor. Although a little touristic, but always appreciated by the people of Granada, Los Manueles remains a good place to eat raciones or snack on tapas. Taste gaspacho andalúz or salmorejo correct, famous tortilla Sacromonte, prepared meats or the typical dishes of the Alpujarras... Here, or even better, in its new nearby branch in the Hotel Monjas Carmen, the warm welcome is welcome, for the latter, in a quite modern and very quiet space, behind its bay windows or at the barra.

MIRADOR DE MORAYMA

In the heart of the Albaicín, with an admirable view of the Alhambra, this table occupies a brilliant location in an authentic historical carmen, beautiful Andalusian villa, oasis as in the countryside. Named after the wife of Boabdil, the last Nasrid emir of Granada, who stayed there, it is one of the first establishments with a terrace to have settled in the district, more than 35 years ago! The Mirador de Morayma preserves a certain presence, sumptuous gardens and noble lounges with rustic decoration with period furniture, archaeological pieces and pretty ceramics... But the good reputation of this restaurant has also been made on its good cocina granadina, made within its walls from olive oil, exclusively organic..: fresh salmoreio, remojón salad (cod and orange) or pipirrana, crunchy asparagus with ham, sausage with tasty caramelized apples, typical Abadía Sacromonte tortilla, chicken breast stuffed with spinach, chuletas de cordero (grilled lamb chops)... As a dessert, choose from very good Arabo-Andalus-inspired pastries. As a bonus, a good wine cellar (including organic wines from the foothills of the Sierra Nevada) and another address with accommodation in the Alpujarras. Ring the doorbell, we'll come and open the door for the most attentive service!

In the heart of the Albaicín, this is an establishment that has been open since 1990 and offers an interesting menu, with cheeses and cold meats for snacking and then specialities on hot stones or fondues (truffles, mushrooms, meats...). You can also try octopus carpaccios or red tuna tataki. The address is also distinguished by a good selection of wines. Reservations are highly recommended, as the restaurant is always busy with young people.

Close to the Santo Domingo church and its beautiful place, efforts are made, both in terms of the framework and preparations. In a well-kept decor and a precious piece of food, with a view of the kitchen, the dishes are presented and made with know-how: some of the plats dishes (with a few new entries including a pastel of aubergines) and others more Andalusian or not (osso buco buco, orange sauce trout), with some personal touch. The service is pleasant and very fast, especially with regard to the menu, only false note: a rather mundane wine card. To discover with each one or each one.
