Pulau Tengah is one of the two Malaysian islands that welcomed Vietnamese boat people in the 1970s and 1980s. The camp closed a long time ago and the isolation is now almost complete. Only one resort occupies this private island in the south, on one of the most beautiful beaches with a drop-off carpeted with splendid coral. Another sumptuous reef lies to the north-west of the island. There's also a conservation center for green turtles, which lay their eggs in July.
