At 1,035 meters above sea level, Bukit Larut, or Maxwell Hill, is today the smallest, most rustic and least expensive of all the mountain resorts. It can be reached on a day trip from Taiping. It is mainly visited by Perak and Penang residents in search of fresh air and hiking during the school vacations. This former tea plantation has no golf course or discotheque, only cottages and small restaurants. The road leading to it dates back to 1950 and can only be reached by 4x4. On a clear day, the view extends as far as Taman Tasik and the island of Pangkor. But the climate is generally very rainy.
