Between Ipoh and Taiping, Kuala Kangsar is a charming little town of around 20,000 inhabitants. A royal city of Perak since the sultan set up his capital here in the 18th century, it became the rubber capital at the end of the 19th century. Today, it resembles a quiet, well-kept provincial town, with its palaces, parks and colonial houses.
