Located in the very north of Perak, on the border with Thailand, Royal Belum is one of the country's newest parks. In 2007, it was officially designated a regional park due to the presence of the endangered Sumatran rhinoceros. In addition to this species, tigers, tapirs, Malayan bears and panthers roam the surrounding area.Access to the park is from the jetty at Pulau Banding, 40 km from the small town of Gerik. Buses also run to Gerik from Ipoh, Kota Bharu and KL. From Gerik, take a cab.
