The border with Malaysia follows the thin snake of the Kolok "river", about 50 meters wide. This river is the only attraction of this border town, 60 km south of the more charming Narathiwat. The main visible activity is the continuous coming and going between the two countries. Western travellers head for Padang Besar or up towards Bangkok. It should be noted that, as in many border towns, prostitution is rampant here. Malaysians take advantage of their visit to Sungai Kolok to frequent the establishments where the Thai prostitutes wait for the customers of passage.
