The main reason for coming to Matelot is that this village is the starting point of many excursions in the surrounding hills, and in particular the start of the most popular excursion that goes from Matelot to Blanchisseuse. Beware, these excursions cannot be done without a minimum of preparation - especially the last one mentioned (about 38 km of track for the junction, and the necessity to stop for the night) -, and it would be totally unconscious to launch into it without being accompanied and without adequate equipment. Ask the Grande-Rivière Guides Association to accompany you.
