DANIEL ET DENISE SAINT-JEAN
Read moreDaniel et Denise, second address signed Joseph Viola, one of the Best Workers in France, have settled in Vieux Lyon for some years now. The decor provides clarity and a beautiful "classical modernity" to the elegant dining rooms that recall the atmosphere of the more classical bouchons by the touches. The tables are covered with the checkered red and white tablecloths and the atmosphere is friendly, according to the tradition. As for the cuisine, it is simply among the best in the city, even if the rates are a little high for a restaurant that does not rank among the most affordable. Joseph Viola perpetuates the tradition of the Lyon specialties, while giving to the "popular" dishes the beautiful "bourgeois" appearances. For starters, the unmissable pâté en croute with foie gras and sweetbread, a soft-boiled egg with its asparagus cream or a priest's omelette with crayfish tails made with fresh eggs from Lentilly. To be followed with a tripe stir-fried in Lyon way, the traditional cake of chicken liver, the andouillette with three firings and, specially recommended by the Futé, the whole pot-roasted calf's kidney in grandma's way. Cottage cheese and its berthe with a Bresse cream and a floating Island with praline of Saint-Genix to resist the temptation. Fine selection of wines. Long live Lyon, long live the bouchons!
CHEZ LOUISE
Read moreThere are many “clichés” that you should enjoy, provided that you find the right address. The Lyon cliché par excellence is the bouchon in Vieux Lyon. And they are many… To avoid any mistake, you read Futé and you discover Chez Louise. The place is worth the detour. Now, you settle down on the most beautiful place in Vieux Lyon, one of the very few original, on the cobblestones of the historic place du Change where was formerly held all Lyon fairs, facing the magnificent Temple du Change and at the foot of one of the most beautiful residences of the city, the Thomassin house that dates back to the 13th century. Here, you are in the heart of a Lyon postcard. The rooms of Chez Louise come to complete this marvelous Lyon postcard with a typical and traditional decor of a bouchon lyonnais. Guignol welcomes us among the frescoes and the numerous objects that are almost quite impossible to discover. The à la carte menu offers us all the specialities that have made the reputation of Lyon traditional cuisine. Let's start with the Salade lyonnaise, the gratin with onions, sausage in brioche served hot with its steamed potatoes. Then parsley seasoned frogs, calf's head, andouillette drawn by the string with mustard sauce, black pudding with apples, tablier de sapeur or poultry cake with aubergine caviar and its tomato coulis. The other delights of the house are the whole duck breast served with its reduced honey sauce or a nice fish trio (bream, cod and red mullet) with lobster sauce. Cervelle des canuts of course and a must-eat praline tart in Lyon way. Sometimes, “clichés” are not all bad, especially when they are Futé.

LE PANIER DU CHEF
Read moreAt the corner of rue Saint-Jean and place Neuve, which opens one of the rare "perspectives" on Old Lyon, the Panier du Chef occupies a privileged place. Its terrace is one of the most pleasant in the district, as long as you enjoy the passage of the many tourists in search of Lyon's food and specialities. Speaking of "Lyonnais specialities", you will find them all on the restaurant's menu, but what you will find less are the flavours of our local dishes. A prime location doesn't make for excellent cuisine - and you can't be sure that the chef fills his basket with fresh produce every morning - but the food is good enough to take a break in this wonderful area of Lyon.
LES RETROUVAILLES
Read moreIt is true that Les Retrouvailles does not fall into a definition that is too «restricted» of the lyonnais. This traditional restaurant, open in the evening, does not offer a lyon specialities card. But if you think a cap is a user-friendly place where you can enjoy dishes prepared by a real cook with high quality fresh products, then you can perfectly find it. At Pierre and Odile Muller, -two of the most adorable people in Lyon's restaurants - there are plenty of surprises. Beginning with this incredible feeling of feeling unique by passing to the table and discovering that Odile, trained at the Hotel Ecole d'Arbois, took great care to fold each towel in a different way. There is a lot of attention to find throughout a meal that is rexhotel by the lovely Jura accent of a hostess always smiling. From the room where the throne on a wall is an imposing rider, the eyes naturally go to the open kitchen. In the Retrouvailles, there is only one service and one takes its time to enjoy menu dishes that change regularly, according to the market made by the chef, Saint-Antoine quay. This summer, a Mousse moss with goat cheese, a bowl of homemade poultry livers, a bird soufflé to tarragon, a thousand sheet of calf and aubergines, in sauce or mullet fillets, anchovies sauce. Not forgetting the homemade desserts presented on a beautiful wooden buffet, with a saint-honoré prepared every weekend. A cuisine of great tradition for an address that has the bouchon spirit.

LA LIMONADE DE MARINETTE
Read moreThis address is just amazing. The most off-beat that we know and yet part of the setting of this beautiful Saint-George district. It is not enough to just admire the shop window of this snack bar while trying to guess all the wonders hidden inside. No, you must push the Marinette's door and meet a charming man who will serve you, at any time, a "rouge limé" and a white coffee, a "Viandox" formula with its share of homemade quiche or a "Bonux" formula with its ham-cheese omelette, all with a dessert of your choice, a lemonade or a coffee for only about ten euros. (payments are not made in francs anymore, that's a pity). Every single detail is particularly taken care of to send us back to the 50s/60s. Absolute revival for parents and magical discovery for children who marvel at the hundreds, the thousands (?) of objects contained on the shelves and collected for 30 years by an enthusiast. You can treat yourself, share memories, you can meet each other… What could be better? Being able to buy objects! This is done with the new shop of Marinette next to the restaurant where you can have enamel signs of another era and boxes full of souvenirs.
LA CUISINERIE
Read moreLa Cuisinerie: a concept well in tune with the times realized by lovers of the art of living well and eating well: Diane and Julien. In this Saint-Georges area so much more interesting than on the side of Saint-Jean, what a happiness to discover at lunchtime this Cuisinerie where we quickly feel "like home" in a decor between "indus", vintage, canteen spirit and old stones not yet seen in the Vieux Lyon. It is beautiful, warm, and there is even a terrace for fine days. The reception is also very cordial to make us share a seasonal and very tasty cuisine. At the table, whether you've come as a couple or with friends (big dinner parties are welcomed, just as families with children), to enjoy beautiful, well-composed salads or a revisited mozzarella tomato, a charolais beef tartare with a knife or exotic salmon tartare. In the evening, the aperitif is gladly extended around homemade tapas, French tapas: a trilogy of beef tartare, a range of charcuteries or IGP cheeses, fritters of zucchini flower saffron mayonnaise, a potatoes millefeuille with thyme and garlic… The {1}Smart{/1} advice: ask for a cocktail/tapas perfect combination, a real happiness. Very gourmet coffee to finish with selected homemade desserts. A gourmet Cuisinerie.
BMD (BOIS, MANGE, DÉTENDS-TOI)
Read moreThe Old Lyon is full of surprises to discover following the Smart. A novelty not to be missed in this superb rue des Trois-Maries, less traffic than Saint John Street, but more authentic. The MDB is a "coffee counter - wine cellar" as was in their own way the bouchons lyonnais. A friendly place where one comes first for the pleasure of sharing a good glass around a good dish. It is simple, we do not take the lead and we are happy to follow the slogan of the house: " Wood, eat and relax ". It must be said that Laurent, the boss, is particularly nice, that the places are really warm and that the card, served at every hour and varies according to the seasons, allows to accompany the very nice selection of wine from here and elsewhere (see our wine bar section). Of course, there is the charcuterie and the cheeses served on slate, but there is also the Gras foie gras, the quality Alsace quiches (fresh received), a beef tartar with a knife or a beef carpaccio also with a salad and a potato potato. An address in the art of living in Lyon.
KELLY'S IRISH PUB
Read moreThere is more than an Irish air on the shores of Saône, at Kelly's Irih Pub. A pub where, between friends, you can enjoy many beers and whiskies around a huge creative counter, as the evening rises in a sporting atmosphere, retransmission on four giant screens, or musical ambience, live concert twice a month, but where you can also enjoy quality cuisine served with the accent of bilingual staff. A simple but effective menu to meet our appetite with a Cheesy Bacon Burger or more regional The Balearics (with reblochon) to complement with an excellent coleslaw or fries, unless you choose to eat a traditional Fish & Chips. Tapas to share while tasting a few beers (plethoric choice) and wrap to vary the pleasures. "Kids "are welcome with a suitable menu. Often, the meal is only a pleasant gourmet stopover in one of the evenings that is happily prolonged.

LA CHIMÈRE
Read moreIn the fantastic universe of Old Lyon, where you cross strange animals, here is a Chimera. A fabulous beast, the Chimera also designates an attractive project, but unworkable… Fortunately for the greedy, this Chimera saw the day (finally, especially at night, since the establishment is open every evening and only on weekends at noon) to offer us a quality kitchen that one could describe as warm to the image of the decor. A setting a baroque strand by a mixture of genres that must be guessed under the sifted light of the places. Tables and chairs, carpets, candleholder, small objects of decoration, decoration to give up with a vaulted room in the basement with its bright bar. It's beautiful and it's good, in the same spirit of nous with dishes that are changing Façon. The lyonnaiseries are present with a black boudin Tatin with apples or meurettes eggs to start. Follow a brochet brochet sauce or the calf kidneys poêlés en in persillade. Seasonal dishes are more creative with a tataki fresh tuna tataki to roasted sesame seeds, its wasabi emulsion, followed by a vanilla-infused burbot tail. Everything is done home, from vegetarian risotto to seasonal vegetables in season praline to finish. A real Chimera with refined tastes.

1. 2. 3.
Read moreThis year again, and for the ninth consecutive year, 1.2.3. may show that it is recommended by Petit Smart. The following question for our readers: why recommend this address rather than the many others that populate this plot? First, like the others, because it benefits from a unique situation in the heart of Old Lyon, the Renaissance district classified as world heritage by UNESCO and that the charm of this place, as well as its natural freshness (even in summer), makes it a unique establishment of its kind. Then, because the reception is cordial, the friendly atmosphere, and that you don't jump over, as happens elsewhere… by appâtant with promises that will not be kept. It is therefore set on the terrace, with a mandatory red and white tile, or in a room that takes on all the traditional cap codes. Please note that the restaurant's brand name is a épis of wheat, as it could be made available to the riders. Side card, we keep the best of lyon specialities: Lyon salad, brains of canut apples, andouillette mustard sauce, sapper apron, Forest sauce Nantua and half saint Marcellin finish. A pot of coast or morgon and happiness is complete. 1.2.3. , an address you can count on.

The result is a menu based on "pulled pork" smoked for 12 hours, ribs, marinated chicken and American Black Angus beef smoked for 12 hours. Meats cooked at low temperature that are very tasty to share, why not, on generously garnished platters. For dessert, a bit lonely, it's cheesecake or brookie. Beers rather than wines. Adorable welcome and guaranteed conviviality. An address that takes us far away!

LE LAURENCIN
Read moreIn Vieux Lyon, all you can see are “bouchons”, but "true" bouchons, those respecting the tradition of good food, drinking and eating well in Lyon, are not numerous along the cobbled streets. Then it is good to follow Petit Futé's opinion that can guarantee you - better than any label, although Laurencin displays that of “Bouchons Lyonnais”- the authenticity of a bouchon or not. Le Laurencin has not come down in the last shower, since the house that shelters it dates from 1528 - normal, you are in the heart of the Renaissance district - and opened its doors… 25 years ago under the leadership of Jean-François Galgani! Pleasant terrace in the pedestrian street, warm room with stone walls, closely set tables as you need it in a real bouchon to get acquainted with your neighbours and to share your impressions around a good meal. After having admired the various objects decorating the walls, it is necessary to make a choice on a menu that offers the Lyon tradition: salade yonnaise, andouillette, pike quenelle, tablier de sapeur… The whole served in generous portions that will delight good eaters. Chocolate profiteroles or praline tart to finish and Lyon pots (Beaujolais, Côtes-du-Rhône…) to accompany the meal. Groups are welcomed upon reservation. A bouchon now “labelled” by Futé.
