From the rue d'Algérie, you go to a Moroccan medina for a total change of scenery. Once the wooden door has been crossed, Lyon seems to us far away. Rather unexpected as a location for one of the very few Greek restaurants in the city, but we like to get together in the evening, sitting on the terrace near the station of Brotteaux to enjoy the sun-drenched specialities with friends. In a decor dominated by the blue and the Ancient frescoes, we let ourselves be driven on the coasts of the Mediterranean to enjoy the best of the Greek and Cretan cuisine. All the specialities are homemade and prepared with olive oil that is beneficial for the health. With a bit of luck, you can dine to the sound of a folk orchestra and dance the sirtaki around the tables. For a first approach of this cuisine more diverse than it would seem, Futé recommend the tasting menu at €22.50 with its plate of starters, then a famous moussaka, the national dish. But you have to return quickly to enjoy the squid stuffed with spinach, fillets of red mullet with olive oil and rosemary or pork sausages, red and green peppers, onions and tomato sauce, without missing the youvetsi moshari, this beef with tomato, or the grilled lamb chop with herbs... We always keep a place for a fabulous yoghurt with honey and nuts or a baklava. A definitively divine place.

The concept, a first on the Old Continent, is that of a made in Québec Belgian chips shop. And if the French fries are the stars, it is the Quebec speciality which does its show according to us: the poutine. Ah! the poutine, which is the dish that you would like to eat after a beautiful logging session in the heart of a cold forest, but a little less after a shopping session in town... It is the only dish that can provide your calorie requirements for a week at once! A dish that comes in several varieties, but never in light version... Even the Vladimir one, "regular" sauce, exceeds our fat absorption capacity. Then, we've not yet told you about the "grosse Cochonne" (fat pig)... In short, the decor may look too much like a canteen enlivened by some illustrated frames, the service is young and friendly, the portions are generous and we're looking for the number of our cardiologist to tell him that we had a crush on the Viennese poutine. As for burgers, they are as fresh as generous and even tasty. Finally, it is not the chips that have caught our attention, but a (fat) poutine which hasn't still existed in Lyon. An ideal address to avoid the recommendations of the national nutrition health programme, but original and friendly. Note that there's another address in the 3rd arrondissement. So how about French fries? The choice is up to you.

From Alep to Damas, the succeful trip to Syria is probably done in one of the only Lyon restaurants that offers many specialities of a very interesting country... But that's another story. With only forty seats, this little place is hosted by the owner who is also an artist and, after a hand-kissing to women at the entrance, is particularly available to explain all the dishes on the à la carte menu, how to eat them and in what order. With his expert advice, we can start with a famous tabbouleh with fresh mint or yabrak, stuffed vine leaves, unless you prefer the dish of the kalife to taste everything! Then, we will discover dajaj, chicken sautéed with sesame cream, beef with cherry or chicken skewers with lemon, without forgetting the nanaa kebab, beef with mint garnished with aubergine. And for dessert, we can finish with mamounieh, the dessert of the Arabian Nights. So we can leave happily after making a gastronomic discovery, at a very reasonable price.

At Best Bagels, it's beautiful like pop art, colorful and stuffy, and it's good as to the States (incidentally, it's better to speak language). Inspired by the American delis, Best Bagels is a unique place in Lyon, where you can both buy products from the United States in the grocery store, but also live on site while having the possibility to read foreign magazines. Bagels Instructions: a small round bread with a hole in the center, cut in two and garned according to the desires. Between the classic lox (smoked salmon, Philadelphia cream cheese and pumplette) to the incredible home recipes (based on pastrami, magic chicken, goat's crotches…), bagels manage to remain delicate, light, yet consistent sandwiches. If you want to test American way of life, you can try sauces, cereals and other cakes, with original and intriguing packaging. The large spaces, you can especially find them to the terrace on the esplanade of the Croix-Rousse, offering one of the most beautiful views of Lyon peninsula and the Fourvière hill. So, you lift up your eyes between two typical dishes. You can start with a Berber salad or grilled peppers, but the real choice begins with the variations of traditional dishes: fifteen couscous with their generous garnishes, the tajines, including a successful homemade lamb, and especially the famous pastilla, baked pancakes with cinnamon and almonds. Do not miss the special of the chef, with the particularly tasty pigeon. Oriental pastries and mint tea to conclude the meal even better when it is taken on a beautiful esplanade.

Even if the streets of the city of Neuve and its surrounding areas offer some possibilities for dining, it is not uncommon to ask ourselves in this area where you can eat properly, in different ways, at a reasonable price. A very practical solution was opened recently, with Cocoo, Thai trendy Asian restaurant. If the entrance is not good, the room, the rooms are huge! The decoration offers us a cheap journey and the reception, like service, is really charming throughout our meal. Plunged into a rather chic pagoda frame, under the voûtes in MOSAIC, we discover the house formula that will make everyone happy: The breakfast buffet. No less than 45 dishes prepared every day to taste everything with the limit of its appetite! It is impossible to name all preparations that mix Thai specialities with other Asian cuisines, especially Chinese or Japanese, making Thai beef salad, nems and sushi, to finish with the coco. In the evening, the possibility to compose a wok or eat a carvery. A secluded setting, a surprising and rather tasty choice, the Cocoo is an address to know.
