Crossed by the Charente, the village of Voulême is an ancient settlement site. It has been occupied since the Paleolithic period, as evidenced by tools (axes, arrowheads, scrapers) discovered in the 19th century. Gallo-Roman vestiges, today exposed in the museum of Civray, were also brought to light. In this green and preserved place, fords allow hikers and fishermen to walk along the banks of the Charente. Not far from the river, an educational circuit around an arboretum presents nine local forest species and the techniques of forestry thanks to explanatory panels.
