A small rural commune of 177 inhabitants, Bougon, named after the river that runs through it, is situated 5 km south of Pamproux and 3 km from the superb Exoudun (in the Mellois region). Its territory has been inhabited since prehistoric times, as evidenced by various important megalithic monuments, such as the dolmen of Sept-Chemins or the Pierre levée. Bougon owes its fame to its particularly well-preserved Neolithic necropolis (4700 BC), one of the oldest in Europe, as well as to its Prehistory Museum. The site and its discovery trail, open to visitors from April to the end of November, will delight children and adults eager to relive the Stone Age!
