A sensitive natural area on the banks of the Aubance river, this commune had a strategic military position during the wars of religion which struck the country in the 16th century. In particular, the Gachetière house, built by the good King René and now classified as a historic monument, was home to some of the Catholic garrisons and commanders who confronted the Protestants who were gradually taking over the West of France. There is also the Mécrin castle, the Saint-Jean castle which was the residence of the medieval lords, as well as superb windmills which recall the strong agricultural tradition of the region.
