Several million years old, this territory has provided evidence of human presence since prehistoric times. However, it was not until Roman times that its emblematic bridges, spanning the Loire, the Authion and the Louet, were built. Les Ponts-de-Cé was for a long time one of the only places to cross the Loire, making it a strategic axis between Nantes and Saumur. As a tribute to its historical importance, the Baillée des filles, one of the oldest medieval festivals in the region, is held there every year. The programme includes a medieval market, falconry show and knights' tournament
