Founded in 1322, Plaisance stands out from the many bastides in the department. Its assembly of regular blocks is criss-crossed by a singular network of streets, and two arcaded squares organize this original town planning. The ramparts destroyed in the early 17th century left three gates and a square corner tower. By the end of the 19th century, the town was a major milling center. The Grand Moulin de Cassagnac is a fine example. In 1862, the town acquired its first bullring to host novilladas, which until then had been held in the Place de la Mairie. Landes races continue to punctuate the Plaisance calendar.
