In the heart of the land of salt and ponds lies a town of character, as its turbulent history testifies, with its many battles over the appropriation of its saltworks, the white gold of the age. Jean de La Fontaine wrote a sonnet following the capture of the Moselle town by Louis XIV in 1663: "[...] Marsal, which boasted of waging war against you, lowered its bold forehead at your approach [...]". Now part of the Lorraine Regional Nature Park, the Seille valley offers magnificent stretches of water and greenery, amid hills and meadows, where the people of Marsal welcome you!
