For over a century, Hettange has enjoyed a worldwide reputation in the scientific community. Indeed, in 1864, a Swiss geologist proposed retaining the Griès quarry as an international reference on a geological floor dating from 204 to 201 million years. The hettangian hettangian came to see the day! This site, classified as a natural reserve since 1985, is the only geological reserve in Lorraine and one of France's ten. Thanks to a marked circuit and a small museum (Maison house), the most interesting geological points (fossils, rocks, gaps) as well as botanical-habitat points are discovered. Archaeological excavations have updated the remains of an important Gallo-Roman road relay.
