Hayange, a town deeply influenced by iron, which has been mined here since the Middle Ages, entered the industrial era at the beginning of the 18th century with the first forges, created by Jean-Marie de Wendel, from a family that had a profound influence on the town and shaped it around its factories. At the heart of the Fensch valley, the town has long been considered the cradle of the Lorraine steel industry. At the entrance to the town, a huge wrought-iron gate gives access to the 18th-century Château de Wendel. Marked by its iron and steel industry, Hayange was the crucible of numerous innovations and a tumultuous history throughout the 20th century.
