In 1755, Intendant de Tourny decided to establish a branch of the Grand Marché on the Place du Parlement. It was named the Marché Royal. It was later moved to the Quai des Salinières, and finally to the Place Saint-Michel in 1960. Today, some 160 merchants line the Place du Bourg and Quai des Salinières, selling mainly foodstuffs, but also a wide range of household goods, cosmetics, shoes and clothing. Ideal for buying in quantity, as there are often interesting offers.
