This historic market (it's been around since the ^18th century, after all!) is an integral part of the town's soul. All year round, it's alive with a unique atmosphere: people come to shop, eat, have a coffee or a drink, buy flowers, sample oysters and world specialties, and even pick up a few items of clothing outside. The meat, French and Spanish charcuterie and cheeses are magnificent! As for prices, especially for fruit and vegetables, they remain very affordable.

In the heart of the Marché des Capucins, at the stall of La Table de Don Quichotte, you'll find the very best in Basque and Spanish gastronomy, thanks to exceptional products: superb Iberian hams, a wide range of cured meats (sausages, pepper-rolled ventrèche), generous chorizos, lomo embuchado and Basque specialties (axoa, Espelette pepper). For a snack, try a Serrano ham crêpe, Serrano bell pepper croques and Serrano cheese rolls.

In 1755, the Intendant de Tourny decided to establish a branch of the Grand-Marché on the Place du Parlement. It was named the Royal Market. It was then moved to the Quai des Salinières and finally moved to the Place Saint-Michel in 1960. Today, some 160 traders are spread out on the Place du Bourg and on the Quai des Salinières, offering mainly foodstuffs, but also various items for the home, cosmetics, shoes and clothing. Ideal to buy in quantity, because there are often interesting offers.

You might think that the Chartrons covered market is actually on the market square, sheltered under the metal and glass hall, but no. To find it, you have to go to the rue Sicard. Seven professionals who select the best of our land (fishmonger, vegetable seller, cheesemonger, delicatessen, oyster merchant, wine merchant and a butcher) welcome customers who come to look for fresh and quality products in a friendly atmosphere. Another market of the Chartrons is held in the open air on the quays on Sunday.
