Downstream from the source of the Loue river, the grandiose scenery of the Nouailles gorges gives way to an amphitheater of greenery that serves as the backdrop for Mouthier-Haute-Pierre. Around the monastery that gave birth to it in the 9th century, this former winegrowing town, now famous for its kirsch, groups picturesque houses built on a complex network of vaulted cellars still equipped with their wine presses. Along the narrow streets, on the facades and in the courtyards, statues and relics beckon the visitor. From the banks of the Loue to the peaks of the Hautepierre rock and the Moine belvedere, the diversity of environments is breathtaking.
