The town is famous for its Comtois horse breeding, with an annual competition attended by over 500 horses! The first mention of a church dates back to the 12th century. There are a number of fine residences, including a neo-Gothic one at the southern entrance. You must see them and take a walk on the slopes of Mont Miroir (98 m) or Faux Verger. Then continue on to the Varoly caves. Take the corniche de Goumois and enjoy beautiful views over the Doubs valley, along the river and the Swiss border. A plaque commemorates the meeting between De Gaulle, Churchill and Eisenhower in November 1944 in Maîche.
