Overlooking the Sancey valley by 150 metres, Belvoir is on the site of a Gallic oppidum transformed into a castrum by the Romans. A first castle was built at the end of the 12th century, but the present one originated at the end of the 15th and the beginning of the 16th century, when the Cusance family rebuilt it. From 1955 and during 40 years, it was the object of a patient restoration, work of the painter Pierre Jouffroy. 20 rooms are opened to the visit and present furniture, paintings, weapons and objects of XVIe at the XXe century. At the foot of the castle, the village is built around its 14th century market halls, the only ones in Franche-Comté with two wooden bays.
