Located on the front line, Vienne-le-Château was at the heart of the fighting during the Great War. The historian Marc Bloch stayed here several times to study the town. Its flamboyant Gothic Saint-Pierre-Saint-Paul church, whose decorated façade dates back to 1728, has suffered some damage. Its high spire was rebuilt after the war. Several memorial sites are nearby: the Gruerie ossuary, created in 1923, where soldiers who died in the Battle of the Argonne are buried; the Harazée necropolis, created in 1915; and the Vallée Moreau camp, a remnant of the First World War...
