Totally destroyed during the First World War, the village of Saint-Thomas-en-Argonne was rebuilt in the 1920s. The only vestige of its former church is a staircase dating from 1823, visible in the present-day Saint-Thomas church, rebuilt in 1925 by architect M. Gallot and contractor Émile Noël. The 2.4-hectare Saint-Thomas necropolis contains the graves of 8,173 soldiers killed during the Battles of Argonne from 1914 to 1918. Today, the village has fewer than fifty inhabitants, but remains a pleasant and typical stopover on your route. Make the most of its peaceful setting for a stopover!
