In addition to Napoleon's exploits during the French campaign and the Saint-Cyprian victory over the Germans in 1914, the town's crowning glory is its château. It was built in the 16th century on the foundations of an ancient fortified castle. The brick and stone palace in the Louis XIII style was extensively remodeled in 1685 by the owner, Louis XIV's minister Louvois. The park was also redesigned in the French style by Lenôtre to accommodate the king. Louvois' daughter married Viscount François de La Rochefoucault, and the château remained in the family's ownership until 1991, when it was sold.
