Boursay, an ancient merchant town in the Middle Ages, has been a crossroads since the Gallo-Roman era when the Via Domitia traced its route. Because of its geographical position leading to Orléans, Le Mans and Tour, Boursay was once a town where a great merchant gathering took place twice a year, inviting the whole region of Ile-de-France, the Centre, Poitou-Charentes and of course the Pays de Loire. Thus, from the 8th to the 14th century, Boursay knew prosperity, until its decline partially caused by the plague, then later by the arrival of the train and the motorways. Boursay is now a small and peaceful village.
