Arthon is located 22 kilometers south of Châteauroux. You have to borrow the D 990 and D 14. The municipality is located in the natural region of Brenne. Arthon's name comes from the celtic word "artos" that evokes the bear. Prehistoric and ancient remains were discovered in Arthon as a protohistoric compound. The first occupations of the commune are the Gallo and Gallo periods. The Roman route linking Argenton to Bourges was through Arthon. The village then formed around the castle belonging to the family of the lords of Déols-Châteauroux. The municipality depended on the Abbey Abbey in 1104 and appeared at the Seigneury of the Varennes in the xivth century. There are many castles, the xiith century church, decorated with contemporary frescoes made by the painter Malespine between 1947 and 1952.
