It takes its name from the fact that it was from here that the couriers that linked Turin to Savona, a port that was very important for the city at the time, left. The interior is characteristic with its old brewery look, but it is the terrace that we prefer, to taste a trout with hazelnuts and a chocolate bunet (kind of sausage) while contemplating in the distance the church of the Gran Madre di Dio.

In the heart of town, just a stone's throw from the lake, Bistrot 76 (formerly Ristorante Piemontese) is one of Stresa's most renowned addresses. Inside: a beautifully wood-panelled dining room and a flower-filled pergola for al fresco dining. The varied cuisine is typically Piedmontese, and the wine list is tempting. The welcome is friendly, almost family-like, and you'll feel right at home. The lake menu offers fish and local produce in original specialties, a real discovery. Good value for money.

A small, unpretentious trattoria, with an old-fashioned decor, but one of the few in the heart of the village. It serves authentic family cuisine, with a menu that changes daily. There's not much choice, but everything is home-cooked, and the portions are hearty and tasty. The staff are very friendly, and the atmosphere is very informal. A must-try if you want to rediscover the sensations and flavors of yesteryear and the generosity of transalpine dining. If you want to dine there, you'll need to make a reservation.

In this restaurant with its light wood decor and colorful tablecloths, you can enjoy local specialties at a reasonable price. Among the tastiest is polenta, a delicious local semolina served concia, i.e. with melted cheese, or with stewed meat. But perhaps you've already heard of it? If not, you can opt for excellent pasta served with sauces made with the famous Barolo wine or Piedmontese Castelmagno cheese, or one of the many pizzas. Very pleasant service. A great time.

This bar-restaurant is one of the historic sites of Sauze d'Oulx. It was here that Adolfo Kind settled in 1898 and began to slide on his skis, introducing the sport to Italy for the first time and giving the first lessons. An ideal place to take a break during your sports day, there is plenty of room, especially on the terrace, in the middle of the slopes, and the atmosphere is very friendly, with a warm welcome. Good pizzas, good dishes including polenta and chamois and, at night, torchlight rides.

At the end of the walk, close to a small coastal shelter, it is a modest address, with a nice terrace and quiet in sunny weather. It offers simple pizzas, panini and salads at very reasonable prices. Music in the evening.

Situated opposite the church, in the quiet centre of Exilles, this café has a small room inside and a pretty wooden kiosk with tables outside, set on the cobblestones of the square, as a terrace. In addition to its classic coffee function (which is very good!), Café Il Forte is also the small village grocery store, which is also very popular. It serves food and very good sandwiches at any time of the day. The owners are very welcoming and friendly. A nice break!

This restaurant with a promising name is situated along the torrent, in the small village. The frame is very pleasant and typical kitchen. This will allow you to try the traditional polenta.

In a sober, classic mountain setting, you'll be served spaghetti, tagliatelle, gnocchi and the famous polenta... all made from carefully selected, fresh ingredients. The wood-fired pizzas are excellent, prepared virtually before your very eyes. Quality wine list too. The service is as good as the food: no false notes!

The cuisine honors regional specialties, all made with the freshest ingredients: the beef(fassone) here is very tender, but don't miss the local cheeses and charcuterie, and of course the pizzas! Good wine list. The welcome is extremely friendly, and the owner speaks French. It's hearty, it's beautiful, all the dishes are excellent, there's absolutely no false note for this restaurant, which remains at the top year after year. Highly recommended!

A very good restaurant-pizzeria, along the main street in the city centre, in a nice building. The chef offers a varied menu, from classic pizzas (which can be requested gluten-free) to Piedmontese specialities. The small summer terrace on the cobblestones makes it possible to increase the number of covers in good weather, because otherwise the room is rather exiguous. The service is fast, but really attentive and friendly. The little extra: the map which is translated into French to help in the choice of dishes to order.

Le serves local cuisine: gnocchi, mash, polenta, house antipasti, soup. A rather varied choice in a pleasant and modern atmosphere.

The proposals follow the market's arrivals, for dishes of great freshness, although you will always find the essentials such as Bra sausage, gnocchi alla Castelmagno (tomato and basil) and a plate of local cheeses, all accompanied by a good wine.

Here's a good family-run Piedmontese brasserie just the way we like it! Everything about this restaurant, which opened in 1919, is traditional, from the retro decor of the dining room to the menu, which pays homage to the region. Must-tries: agnolotti (small meat ravioli), braised meats with local wines (nebbiolo, arneis...), boiled cuts of meat, snails or tripe, and finally bunet (typical Piedmont flan with almonds and cocoa). The service is perfect, and the wine list has no false notes!

Wine bar and gourmet restaurant, La Curia offers a refined Piedmontese cuisine that follows the arrivals of the market, accompanied by a long wine list. Three red brick vaulted interior rooms and a pleasant summer terrace make up the setting. The menu, decidedly high level, offers a real journey through the fundamentals of local cuisine, cooked with refinement. Risotto with asparagus and robiola di Roccavareno, tajarin with boletus, Piedmontese fries, homemade bread and grissini The freshness of the ingredients speaks for itself!

After several years in the temple of gastronomy, the University of Gastronomic Sciences of Pollenzo, the restaurant of the great chef Guido Alciati has taken up residence in a new building. In order not to feel out of place, the setting remains one of the royal residences of the Savoy, the Villa Reale of Fontanafredda. The refined setting guarantees a cuisine that you don't eat but enjoy. Everything is good, beautiful (although not very abundant) and of course very expensive. The Disguido bistro offers more affordable but equally refined dishes.

In the same courtyard as the Slow Food offices, here's Osteria Boccondivino, the first Slow Food-labeled restaurant, offering excellent, simple, tasty cuisine at rather modest prices for the quality on offer. The label's criteria are respected: fresh, seasonal, local produce for tasty, authentic dishes. You won't soon forget the vitello tonnato and the brasato di vitello al barolo . A superb wine list honors the local vineyards. When the weather's fine, the terrace is a delight.

This inn, just a stone's throw from Ivrea's old town center, offers traditional, authentic and unpretentious local cuisine. Local specialitiessuch as bagna cauda and vitello tonnato are served in generous portions. The welcome is warm and the service friendly, in a rustic decor that perfectly matches what's on the plate. If you don't know what to choose, take the tasting menu, and you'll get a good overview of Piedmontese gastronomy. It's a typical place and very good value for money.

One of the best restaurants on the lake, but unfortunately not for everyone's wallet. Its enviable position offers a beautiful view of the Rocca d'Angera, located directly opposite the beautiful summer terrace. Founded in the 1960s by painter Sergio Loeffler, the restaurant has built its reputation on creative, refined cuisine where each dish is a true work of art. Lake fish is the guest of honor in every dish, prepared in a thousand different ways, each more mouth-watering than the last.

In Arona's pretty central square, with a beautiful view of the lake, on the terrace or in the dining room, at lunchtime or in the evening by candlelight, this is a very popular address among tourists, where the freshness and quality of the products do not disappoint. The restaurant's menu reflects the chef's Neapolitan origins: regional recipes rub shoulders with those of Campania, with plenty of hearty fish dishes and seafood and shellfish pastas, all in a friendly Mediterranean atmosphere.

Good selection of local beers and wines. Friendly staff and affordable prices. The two-storey bookshop is also very well stocked.

Two-star chef Antonino Cannavacciuolo, star of the kitchen, has opened a three-level café and bistro in the heart of Novara, on the site of a former theater. Interesting upscale culinary proposals, combining Neapolitan-inspired recipes (Cannavacciuolo hails from Vico Equense, near Sorrento) and northern flavors. Wine tasting is also available.

An exceptional location for this restaurant, which is very popular with the locals and attracts all visitors, just behind the church of Sant'Anna on the heights of Cannobio. Its arbour terrace suspended above the Orrido di Sant'Anna promises a meal lulled by the music of the waterfalls. The coolness of the site is particularly appreciated on summer evenings. In the kitchen, a great chef and his pastry chef wife who, after several professional experiences throughout the world, have chosen to open an address all their own in the heart of Baveno. If the decoration does not surprise more than that, you can recognize in the plate the touch of a great cook (marinated salmon, entrecote steak with pierrade, pork tenderloin with small vegetables, spaghetti with clams and seaweed ...). You will be delighted and savour the quality of the products, the know-how of the owners and the service. A sure value that we recommend.

With the idea that another way of raising animals, cultivating vegetable gardens, respecting the environment and enjoying the gastronomic pleasures of the terroir is possible, M**BUN opened its first establishment in Rivoli in 2009. Close to the castle, this veritable Piedmontese institution offers exquisite, authentic Piedmontese products in a modern, innovative, local and inexpensive form, all without preservatives or colorants. Three other establishments have since opened, this time in Turin.

In Camaleonte, in San Salvario, we eat like at home. In this neighbourhood brasserie, which plays the card of the family canteen, the dishes change according to the arrivals of the market, the service is good frankness, the decoration is simple and warm with a little student air. In a nutshell, it's the perfect place to eat well, and cheap. Piedmontese agnolotti, regionally braised meats, platters of cold cuts and cheeses, good wines, and the unmistakable coffee prepared before your eyes in the small Bialetti mocha coffee maker.

At the entrance to the square, under the arcades, this address was established in 1922. Da Michele is a timeless bistro with a large counter and wood-fired oven, where you'll be served pizza al tegamino, a small, crunchy pizza presented directly in its mould. The menu also features traditional Piedmontese dishes, with a nod to Liguria with farinata (chickpea pancakes), and to Tuscany with ribollita (bread and vegetables simmered in court-bouillon). Authentic, relaxed atmosphere of a family kitchen.

A friendly brasserie, a few steps from Piazza Cavour, that doesn't look like much when you walk past, but is well worth a try. The large, bright dining room and summer terrace are the perfect place to sample local specialties for lunch or dinner, including excellent risotti (with mushrooms, Barolo wine, gravy...), at very reasonable prices. Wood-fired pizzas, abundantly topped, also available gluten-free.
