A great Tolosa classic, known throughout the country for its excellent cuisine. This traditional house is famous for its chuletón a la parrilla (grilled prime rib) - the best in the world according to the American magazine Forbes! - served with absolutely divine piquillo peppers! The secret of its delicious meat lies in the art of cooking, an art that has been going on since 1954. As an appetizer, try Navarra asparagus or bellota ham. There is very little choice on the menu, but all the products are excellent. Not to be missed!

A magical place, facing the ocean, to eat a burger, pintxos, or more sophisticated dishes in the restaurant area - mostly fish-based. Inaugurated in 1998 in the Playa de Atxabiribil, El Peñón has three terraces on different levels. With its sublime view of the ocean, it is a privileged spot to drink a cocktail at sunset time. The restaurant's à la carte menu: tuna tataki, salmon tartar and sautéed chipirons are a tasty option. Also nice salads and several dishes for children!

A la carte, don't miss the unmissable huevos carbonizados (literally, "charred eggs") and the exquisite carrillera (simmered beef cheek). A modern day tavern located in the centre of Zumaia. The slate displays a wide selection of wines served by the glass, while the counter is loaded with tasty pintxos. But it is above all to feast on divine tostas that you come to this address! They are garnished with red tuna, cod, smoked salmon, anchovies... Tapas of great delicacy, served with a smile! For a more substantial meal, opt for the delicious cazuelas (small dishes served in terracotta ramekins). Our favourite in Zumaia!

The best pintxos bar in Hondarribia, without hesitation! First of all, plan to arrive early to find a place on the terrace, as the house does not take reservations. At the counter, you will find a bevy of very appetizing pintxos, but we advise you to order à la carte to try out more elaborate preparations. The "huevo mollete" and "hondarribia", which have won numerous awards in pintxo competitions, are not to be missed, as is the delicious "txerribeltz", pork in three textures with beetroot mayonnaise. Divine!

This is a traditional cider house that only opens its doors during the Txotx season. On the menu: chorizo in cider, cod tortilla, cod with chilli peppers, grilled prime rib, Idiazábal cheese and delicious Tolosa biscuits. A simple and traditional menu, with top quality products, especially beef, perfectly cooked "a la brasa". Here we eat standing up in a large, friendly room, or next to the kupelas (cider barrels). Between each dish, a glass of cider is served directly from the barrels!

On the essential Avenue Calle San Pedro, the place of concentration of tapas bars, a compulsory stop for its raciones of squid, its varied pintxos and its large terrace. The perfect place to get involved in the lively atmosphere of Hondarribia.

Traditional cuisine in this small, unpretentious restaurant in the heart of Gernika, just a stone's throw from the Peace Museum, where a large number of regulars come every day to enjoy a hearty del dia menu at great prices. In a warm canteen setting, you can enjoy good Basque recipes made with local products: chipirons in their ink, alubias (beans) from Gernika, fish soup, hake a la plancha... A popular and noisy address!

Traditional and copious cuisine in this tavern with a rustic decor. The place is particularly prized at aperitif time for its impressive choice of pintxos! Often crowded, always friendly, it is a good place to treat yourself to some tapas. If you have trouble identifying what some of these delicious little Basque bites are made of, don't hesitate to ask the waiters for a little more explanation, some of them even speak French. Certainly one of the most popular addresses in town.

A classic and elegant restaurant on the road to Mount Igueldo, renowned throughout the city for its superb bodega and refined cuisine. Founded in 1964, Rekondo occupies a pretty stone villa, whose renovated living rooms offer a very pleasant setting to discover its excellent traditional cuisine: artichokes with foie gras, baked txangurro (crab), hake in green sauce, rice with clams ... With more than 4,000 references, the restaurant has one of the finest wine lists in the world. Charming terrace for lunch in the shade of the plane trees.

The best address in the city to enjoy a good meal or pintxos in a nice rustic setting, with stones and exposed beams. This typical four-century-old caserío proudly stands out amidst the modern buildings on the outskirts. On the Paseo Nuevo, nestled against Mount Urgull, this restaurant offers a privileged location next to the aquarium and facing the Bay of La Concha. It is a modern and minimalist glass cube that opens out to the ocean with its beautiful terrace. In the kitchen, chef Mikel Santamaría creates creative and iodised dishes: tuna belly with green Ibarra peppers; Donostiarra soup with clams, monkfish and lobster; scampi ravioli and sautéed scallops. For a more modest price, enjoy the cafeteria area.

Francis Paniego, owner of the restaurant Portal de Echaurren runs this gourmet restaurant (1 Michelin star). Awarded by the national price for gastronomy in 2012, the young chef from La Rioja offers an inventive cuisine and close to local, in the sumptuous decor which Marqués de Riscal offers to him, avant-garde building designed by Frank Gehry. The wines are obviously a choice place throughout the gourmet experience.

In a very minimalist decor, the NH Collection Aránzazu hotel restaurant has forged its own identity thanks to the inventive and contemporary dishes signed by chef Martín Aristondo. Located opposite the Zubimusu Park, less than 10 minutes walk from the beautiful beach of Ondarreta, this restaurant with its uncluttered setting is very popular with the locals. In addition to its excellent tapas and raciones, Kukuarri stands out for its always innovative market cuisine. Favour the tasting menu, which offers good value for money!
