CHATEAU COUTET
Read moreChâteau Coutet, located in the town of Barsac, is a wine estate steeped in history. Originally a fortress in the 13th century, the château still retains traces of its medieval construction, notably with its crenellated square tower. Over the centuries, the estate has evolved to become one of the first vineyards in the Sauternes appellation. In 1787, Thomas Jefferson, third President of the United States, even described Château Coutet as "the best Sauternes in Barsac". In the 19th century, the estate passed into the hands of the Lur-Saluces family, who also owned the famous Châteaux d'Yquem and de Fargues. In 1855, at the time of the classification ordered by Napoleon III, Château Coutet was officially recognized as one of the Premiers Grands Crus of Sauternes and Barsac.
