SUB-PREFECTURE
Read moreYou will find it in a small dead end at the bottom of the main artery (rue de la République). In 1244, Alfonso of Portugal, Count of Boulogne and Clermont, and his wife Mathilde gave the Hôtel-Dieu which welcomed the poor and sick to the Order of the Trinitarians. Their mission was then to buy back prisoners. The convent had the right of seigneury on its district. The wealth of religious increased considerably thanks to donations. In addition to the cloister, the convent consisted of the Saint-André church (built around 1392), a cemetery, gardens and vineyards. The monks, for lack of means, quickly abolished the hospital. The Revolution drove out the Trinitarians and sold their property. The church was razed to the ground. Since 1800, the main building has housed the premises of the sub-prefecture. Since 1927, the complex of facades and turret has been listed as a Historic Monument.
