Read moreNordanå includes, among others, the Skellefteå Museum, which traces the 150-year history of the town, the Nordanå Theatre and an open-air museum that houses some red wooden houses built in the 18th century in its park. In summer, ethno-tourists can discover the traditional activities of the region through exhibitions of old furniture and looms. Local handicrafts include ceramics, jewelry and sheep's wool mittens. In the old school converted into a museum, crafts and paintings are exhibited.

Read moreIn the west of Mårtenstorget, rue Kattesund, you can see the ruins of the Drotten church. The archaeological excavations carried out in 1984-1985 highlighted its richness and the fascinating character of its history. Everything suggests that the church, built in the middle of the th century, was destined for the diocese. Originally, there were crypts under the choir and under part of the big nave. Drotten housed a convent before serving, around 1300, parish church until the Reformation in 1536, the date of its demolition.

UNIVERSITY
Read moreLund University was founded in 1666. Today, about 35,000 students are enrolled at the university. Opposite the university building and on the right side of Lundagård Park stands the Student Union building (Akademiska Föreningen), which houses meeting rooms, concert halls, a pub, a restaurant and the administration. During the academic year, the area between the university, the Akademiska Föreningen and the many institutes is crowded with students. The library is located behind the bishop's house.
LUNDAGÅRD PARK
Read moreWe highly recommend that you walk through Lundagård Park, which lies north of the cathedral. Here you will find Kungshuset, also called Lundagårdshuset, a red brick house built in the last half of the 16th century and former residence of King Frederick II of Denmark. In the park, between Kulturen, the Museum of Folk Art and Traditions and the Student Union building, Tegnér Square is recognizable by the statue of Esaias Tegnér, a famous Romantic poet who was a student at the University of Lund before teaching there.

Read moreVoted best museum in Sweden in 2006 and not by chance! This museum is a small marvel of scenography, presenting through the ages the culture and the heritage of the region. The historical objects are highlighted as rarely in a museum. We go from the Middle Ages to the mass emigration to the United States, then to the 20th century and its inventions in a whirlwind of objects, films and delightfully realistic settings. The new feature is the science and technology discovery room, where you can learn a lot about movement, light, materials... You can do your own experiments, go through a heat detector, and even create your own paper! Museum of Modern Art in the second building with some good, and some not so good. There are works by artists such as Uno Troili and Gunvor Nelson, as well as information on how the works were made and the context of their creation. There are also temporary exhibitions featuring local and national artists, some of them very contemporary! Moreover, children are not left out since special exhibitions are dedicated to them, both interactive and original, and always colorful! In short, it is without doubt a place not to be missed if you stop in the city, and you will not be disappointed to have passed there. If you are hungry, there is also a restaurant and a café in the museum.
HOGLANDS PARK
Read moreIn the center of the city, between the train station and the Grand-Place, this park commemorates the battle of Hogland which took place in 1788. You can see the statue of King Charles XIII who, on that occasion, led the Swedish fleet. The park was designed to follow the fashion of the French parks, so there are beautiful geometric areas dotted with flowers. Near the fountain is a bronze statue by Karlskrona native Gunnar Nilsson of the Blekinge girl.

Read moreThe Kulturen (opened in 1892) is comparable to the Skansen Museum in Stockholm, and is located on the edge of Lundagård Park, in a maze of small cobbled streets. The museum's grounds provide a shortened history of southern Swedish architecture. Small farmhouses, vicarages and dwellings have been reconstructed as they were originally, as well as a beautiful wooden church from the village of Bosebo in the province of Småland. In 1923, the museum moved from the East India building to new, purpose-built premises in Slottsskogen, where it was expanded in 1981. It displays the country's wildlife and animals from around the world, including a stuffed whale and elephant. The museum has a collection of nearly 10 million animals, no less!

Read moreThe place is worth a visit. Himmelsberga is a village of preserved buildings from the 17th and 19th centuries that can be visited. The supplies and furniture are still there, along with the machines and equipment of the time. The museum also has an art gallery where temporary exhibitions are presented. The aim of this museum was to save a traditional village of the island (which was about to be destroyed) for posterity; and it is more than successful!

Read moreOn Route 136 after Halltorp is this modern art museum on stilts, with a very cubic shape and large windows, which presents the works (sculpture, design, pottery...) of Ulrica Hydman-Vallien and Bertil Vallien, from the 1960s until today. In 2003, Vida expanded with another art gallery, Norra Hallen. There are now two permanent museum rooms, three art galleries, a children's corner, a shop and a café, all on a total area of 2,000 m². NATURUM VÄSTERVIK

KALMAR REGION MUSEUM (LÄNS MUSEUM)

This is mainly due to the exhibition about the Kronan, the best armed Swedish warship of the 17th century, whose wreck was discovered in 1980 off Öland. The wreck of the Kronan is not on display as such, but some of the 25,000 pieces that were recovered from the water provide an insight into life on board and the history of naval combat along the coast.

Read moreCollections of navy arms and models of old ships. It shows the role of the Swedish fleet based in Karlskrona in the emergence of Sweden as a great European power in the th century. Exhibitions outline the way of life on board the war vessels of yesteryear. Some refinement already seemed to prevail: one can admire, among others, a nine-legged cat, used for punishment. From a submarine observation tunnel, it is even possible to see the wreck of a ship of the th century.

Indeed, Hägnan is an archaeological site of the 14th century where there was a presbytery. Today the village has been recreated around this symbolic place. It is a real work of reconstitution and not of reconstruction which was carried out. The oldest houses are from the 18th century and the interior of the houses is richly decorated.

Read moreOld Catholic church built in the 15th century and consecrated in 1492, the interior has magnificent frescoes that were for a time covered (18th century), they date from the late Middle Ages and come from the school of Albertus Pictor. In the center, the wooden tabernacle relates the Passion of Christ, one of the most beautiful in Sweden, made in Antwerp around 1520 by a Flemish master. The baptismal font, the pulpit and the murals harmonize perfectly with the organ, inaugurated in 1971, which consists of 4,200 pipes made in Gammelstad.

A tour including transportation to Esrange, presentation, guided tour is possible. SÂME MUSEUM (NUTTI SÁMI SIIDA)
Read moreA traditional Saami camp, explaining the Saami way of life, their customs, etc. At the back of the museum, there is an enclosure where you can freely see reindeer. We will also pass by the small store that sells Sami handicrafts. You can also stay in a chalet or a tent and enjoy the typical snow sports of the region. Note that from April to early June, the reindeer graze in the mountains and are therefore not visible. Entrance is then free.

SAAMI VILLAGE OF LAPPSTADEN
Read moreThe church city of Arvidsjaur is extremely well preserved. These pyramid-shaped Lappish tents were never permanently inhabited by the Sami, but were used as overnight accommodation during religious retreats. The buildings are still owned by the Sami people today. It is the largest preserved Saami village, with many outbuildings and barns dating from the 18th century. Not to be missed if you pass by Arvidsjaur!
LUTHERAN CHURCH (JOKKMOKKS NYA KYRKA)
Read moreBuilt in 1889, this white church with a pale green roof is rather original in the area. It looks like a fairy tale castle! Gothic-inspired architecture, but the interior is a model of sobriety - a real contrast. On the other hand, the painting above the altar is not at all banal: the Last Supper representing Christ surrounded by the Apostles is very modern, which is surprising, we must say. The visit is worth the detour!
OLD CHURCH (GAMLA KYRKA)
Read moreBuilt in 1753, a fire totally destroyed it in 1972 and it was rebuilt identically. The interior is decorated in the same colors: blue, red and yellow. The church building is an elongated octagon with one floor and a vaulted roof. Around the church, a curtain wall was built in the style of the one that existed in the 19th century. The crosses, chandeliers and hymn board of the church are made of wood from the fire-damaged church.
BOTANICAL GARDEN (FJÄLLBOTANISK TRÄDGÅRD)

STORFORSEN FALLS
Read moreA superb site at the intersection between the Piteälven and Vitbäcken rivers near the town of Vidsel. From Jokkmokk on the road 45,70 km before Arvidsjaur, turn left on Route 374 on 35 km to the village of Bredsel. Just before joining, the Vitbäcken and Piteälven rivers turn into a timeless succession of rapids. The flow of the river is enormous. In order to be better able to attend the show, the banks have been set up in an enchanting place of relaxation spaces for the family in the midst of an offshoot of calm streams.

THE OLD WOODEN BRIDGE AND THE WALK BY THE RIVER
Read moreThe river Skellefteälv and its built banks are perfect for a long walk which describes a pleasant loop, first by way of the village-church, then by taking steps on the small island of Kyrkholmen (where the summer Kyrkholmen Café serves delicious Swedish brussell to the chicoutés, these Nordic little blackberries). Then, past the church, you must admire Lejonströmsbron, the bridge of the lion's current. It is the oldest wooden bridge accessible to vehicles across Sweden. Supported by large stone piers, it dominates the vif waters of the river. Every seven years, the work must undergo renovations because the studded tires of cars use the boards that cover it. The place witnessed an important battle between the Swedish and Russian armies in 1809, but it was not destroyed! The walk continues on the other side, where you can reach the centre via the other bridge.
SCULPTURE PARK (SKULPTURPARKEN)

Interesting and original, it offers a beautiful space with works by many Swedish and international artists. It is a perfect place to spend a meditative afternoon among the birdsong and the trees. In winter as well as in summer, the sculptures occupy the space in a captivating way. Admission is free at any time of the year, but the place is not very interesting when there is too much snow.

FURILLEN PENINSULA
Read moreThis lost peninsula in the north-east of Gotland is mostly known for its very original Fabriken hotel, but the nature reserve in the south of the peninsula is superb to isolate yourself and enjoy the amazing vegetation. Limestone quarries were dug on the island in 1908 by a German company. Thus, for most of the 20th century, there was a limestone industry on the island until it was closed to the public by the Swedish army between 1970 and 1990 to be transformed into a military base.
