LEMPESIS
Read moreYou should know that this tavern exists, hidden in the hotel. It is a traditional restaurant, once run by Stamatis' parents. Today, the latter provides the service while his wife Zampeta prepares the dishes. On the menu, particularly successful, we had: caper salad with onions, chickpea soup, rooster in wine and lamb in the oven. Organic vegetables are grown in family fields. They also raise their rabbits, lambs, chickens, sheep and pigs. Homemade desserts are delicious.
I PLATEIA
Read moreBetween Palaiochora and Hania, this tavern owes its well-deserved reputation to the hospitality and organization of Samantha, the manager. Sit under the plane trees of Kandanos Square and enjoy Cretan cuisine worthy of the name: tsigariasto (mutton cooked in olive oil and oregano), sautéed snails(bourbouristoi) with rosemary and vinegar, zucchini flowers stuffed with rice, homemade yogurt, baked eggplant, three-cheese pate(kreatopitta), etc. The portions are generous. Excellent value for money.
PARADISE BEACH TAVERNA
Read moreTaking the road to Agia Effymia, along a fantastic coast with small pebble beaches and incredible turquoise waters, you will not be disappointed. In addition to a small picturesque port and the beach of Piso Lithovatis for swimming, you will find a fabulous tavern overlooking the beach. It serves delicious homemade grilled meats, pies, casseroles and fish. For dessert, let yourself be tempted by a chocolate soufflé with a flavoured orange cream on one of its small tables placed under a pergola
STOU THOMA
Read moreTo get off the culinary beaten track, head to Poulata, a village off the tourist trail, 5 km from Sami, which alone is home to two of the best meat taverns on the island. At Stou Thoma, your host will serve you meat from his own farm, grilled to perfection, on his terrace. You can eat in the middle of the olive trees or indoors in winter or when the weather is bad. In the same spirit, you can also go to Robolis, another tavern famous for its mutton and bifteki (meat cakes).
ROULA
Read moreOver the years, this popular tavern, known for its fish, has become a reference in the Corfiote culinary scene. Recently renovated, the establishment is precisely located on Gerekos beach, by the sea, with a view of the Gouvia marina. Be sure to book a table. Very good fresh fish, lobster and seafood, pickled anchovies and octopus in vinegar. And you will also find here all the other classics of Greek cuisine: horiatiki (Greek salad), gavros (fried fish), gemista (stuffed vegetables)..
TOULA
Read moreHere's a century-old house transformed into an elegant restaurant, with beautifully laid tables overlooking the sea. In the kitchen, Toula Katsarou-Vergeti lovingly prepares dishes influenced by Greek and Corfiote tradition, with a few international touches thrown in for good measure. The salads are full of imagination, like the Corfiote salad (with cured ham and kumquat) which stands out. The herbs come from the kitchen garden. The best dessert for last: a pear stuffed with mascarpone and caramel when we stopped by.
DIETHNES
Read moreAway from the noise of the square, in the main street of Sparta, this small unpretentious restaurant offers a tasty cuisine as well as a small indoor garden in a quiet area. Pork cooked with fresh vegetables (green beans, eggplants) is excellent such as baked pork with potatoes, lamb in lemon and fresh oregano sauce, steamed meatballs and local chicken with cheese and onion. The lamb chops are also very good! The welcome is charming and the prices moderate.
PLATANOS
Read moreA good sign here: the majority of the customers are Greek and the restaurant does not need to open in the evening. A few tables shaded by two large plane trees await visitors without a reel. Here, the daily specials (soutsoukakia, gemista and other moussakas) leave very, very quickly. We probably tasted one of the best pasticios on the island. Whose recipe is it? Mystery... We can guess that the establishment, which opened in the last century, has seen a few generations of people come and go. Really an excellent value for money.
TAVERNE VAGIAS
Read moreIn a small courtyard of Kalamata, this tavern is one of the more appraisals of the buildings. The grannies in cuisine concoct succulent light meals: eggplants roasted with feta, kayianas (a dish containing eggs, of tomato and feta), liver of beef, dandelions cooked with gray beans (mavromatika)... An address to be tested!
KATERINA
Read moreIt is one of the old taverns of the island, with a flowered terrace, overlooking the cove. What a location and what a view! We are also delighted by what there is in the plate: family cooking based on mezzes, vegetable dumplings, simmered dishes of lamb or rabbit... The cuisine is beautiful, and the products are mostly from their own garden. Excellent sfougata, croquettes with fresh cheese and nutmeg. Don't miss the oven-roasted pork with potatoes either. And if the charm is there, you can rent some rooms...
MANTZOURANA
Read moreOverlooking the main street at the central square, this is undoubtedly the best souvlaki and gyros in town. Tourists flock here on the roof terrace, but so do the locals, for the Greek sandwiches to take away and the good grilled meats. A very simple address, like any good psitopoleion, as they call the establishments dedicated to grilled meat in Greece. We come here at the beginning of the evening to have a gyros in the belly while watching the world go by, before going out for a drink in the alleys below.
TAVERNA TZITZIFIES
Read moreIf you push your waterfront walk a little further north, passing Romaikos, you will arrive in this relaxed family tavern, and especially the tables laid on the sand. Leaving the centre of Myrina, we go back in time a little bit with customs as we like them. Here, you can choose your daily specials from your mother's kitchen across the street (salads, meatballs, delicious vine leaves...). Open all day long, the place is also ideal for a drink or coffee between two dives.
ELLADOS GEUSEIS
Read moreWe tend to think that restaurants with typically Greek names (i.e. incomprehensible at first sight to those who do not speak the language) often have good surprises in store for us. Nevertheless: this restaurant soberly named "Greek Flavours" confirms the rule: fresh salads, small grilled fish, saganaki specialities and traditional sauce dishes, all with a very honest homemade tsipouro. And, above all, it's on the waterfront, above a small beach where you can take a dip while waiting to be served ..
ACHIVADA
Read moreThis small tavern offers a very respectable seafood menu on the coastal road of the village: take advantage of the tables on the harbor to enjoy the view while eating. The must-try items of the house are apparently the octopus balls, as well as the fried zucchini flowers, the salted sardines and the marinated or fried gavros (anchovies). Overall, you will find here a home cooking based on fresh fish and good meats, grilled, in casseroles or in delicious stews. To be accompanied by a local ouzo, of course.
GIANNAKAROS
Read moreSea, beach and tavern.... The address had been given to us by our hotelier in Moudros: first of all, you can swim and enjoy the sun, in the crystal clear waters of the sandy beach... This patio is located right next to the water with a beautiful view of the bay and hills. On the menu side, only classics and family cuisine. Incidentally, it is the ideal place to watch the sunset... The view over the harbour and to the fort is charming. The food is typical and the portions are generous. The service is warm and friendly.
MOURAGIO
Read moreWell situated in front of the boats in the Steni Vala marina, this family tavern offers a varied menu to satisfy everyone. But you might as well go to the simplest and watch the fish: it is the catch of the day, sold by weight. You choose your piece and it is grilled. This small tavern, the last one on the quay, is an enchantment. Its terrace, preserved from the noise, overlooks the sea and the fishermen's boats which will undoubtedly bring back octopus for your plate. Simple and family cooking, just like the tasty fava.
NONTAS
Read moreA simple and authentic tavern on the promenade of Perdika, whose history dates back to 1936. Its specialties include spaghetti with lobster (kritharoto) and fish soup (tiganosoupa) but there are also classic octopus, squid and other eggplant caviar, pitas (homemade) and fish. All this with a nice view of the port with the fishing boats that will have supplied you. As often, if you hesitate, you can choose in the kitchen. The homemade and often offered desserts are also a small delight.
PETRA BEACH BAR ALMIROS CORFU
Read moreA magnificent site, good food, generous portions and a superb view. Beyond that, the beach isn't bad either, with free sunbeds if you have a drink at the bar. And we recommend it at any time of day, starting with the famous breakfasts. Afterwards, we were treated to excellent zucchini dumplings, tarama, salads, burgers and a very decent house wine. In the long run, it's not cheap, but it's worth it.
THE GOLDEN HOOK
Read moreOuranoupoli is full of restaurants of all types and prices. This one is among the most "chic" and elegant, while remaining quite affordable. After having a souvlaki or a "toast" on the go at lunchtime, this is an ideal stopover in the evening. On the menu: tasty risottos, gourmet fish soups or some expected Greek classics. All with a view of the sea, white tablecloths and impeccable service.
