ARISMARI & VARSAMO
Read moreOne of the best addresses in town. A good family restaurant that is dedicated to welcoming its customers at lunch and dinner, facing the sea. Excellent Cretan cuisine cooked over an olive wood fire, in an elegantly renovated setting. Different dishes of the day, usually organically grown. It is prepared with olive oil... but it is also a restaurant of meat, salads and fish. The traditional Cretan dishes are highlighted, with succulent snails, octopus and pieces of lamb. Very affordable prices. We'll be back, with pleasure.
PANTHEON TAVERNA
Read moreSmall family restaurant, very well situated high up to admire the splendid view of the port. Among the large choice of dishes, we enjoyed the kleftiko (oven-baked lamb with cheese and vegetables). Good classic Cretan cuisine (tarama, garlic bread, saganaki shrimps, grilled sea bream, lamb in sauce...), with a welcome like the Cretans know how to make. The staff is smiling. The traditional glass of raki and the small plate of pastries are always offered with joy at the end of the meal. There are a lot of regulars, it's relaxed.
ERISTOS KANTINA ART
Read moreStelios installs his little colourful caravan every year on Eristos beach. A small Zen paradise, we settle around the hammock tree and spend the day reading and swimming, between two strikes, a good omelette for breakfast and simple but successful snacks (including some very good hamburgers). In the evening, the place comes alive with all the beach campers who come for a drink: beers and cocktails are shared, often around a moment of music with their feet in the sand and Stelios takes care of everyone.
METHEXIS
Read moreThis tavern is well located, a little out of town, a few meters from the sea, on the peninsula to the east. You can't miss it: a small caique is in front of the entrance of the establishment! It serves traditional Greek and Cretan cuisine and fresh fish (depending on the arrival). The dishes are prepared on a daily basis. Among the specialties: kleftiko (lamb with vegetables and cheese in the oven), octopus with wine, cheese fritters, grilled lobster, sardines... You can digest on the small beach in front of the restaurant.
FISHKARDO
Read moreThe arrival of Michelin-starred chef Lefteris Lazarou - formerly of the prestigious Varoulko in Piraeus - has not gone unnoticed. Here, tables sprawl across the picturesque harbor, laden with fish specialties. Among her creations are marvellous garlic shrimps with wine sauce, cherry tomatoes and olive oil. We also love his wild artichoke fillets or soups, depending on the season. Alternatively, you can rediscover his talent a few meters away at Tra Due, on Kavvadia Square, where the chef serves specialties with a more Italian accent.
MESOSTRATO TAVERNA
Read moreThis tavern is located within the walls of a 16th century ruin, under cool and welcoming trees. The collapsed roof of the Venezia Loggia has never been rebuilt and people now eat outdoors. During the day, the restaurant is a pleasant break in the shade of the trees, while in the evening you come to listen to live traditional music and enjoy good food accompanied by a Cretan beer or a glass of homemade wine. An establishment and a good-natured atmosphere, for a pleasant culinary moment in Hania.
ODYSSIA
Read moreThis chic, luxurious restaurant offers top-notch Mediterranean and Greek cuisine, admittedly more expensive than the average in Lindos (itself inflated in the village's restaurants due to the influx of tourists), but well worth it for the quality of the dishes and ingredients on offer. You'll appreciate the sober decor, which gives way to the traditional architecture of the whole place: the pebble mosaic floors are magnificent, as are the views over the rooftops. Reservations are essential if you want a table after 6pm.
LEVANTE FISH TAVERNA
Read moreAt the port, on the waterfront in the old town, this tavern was created in 1936 by the Frangiadaki family. It is run by Nikos, a French-speaking man, who prepares, with organic products from his farm, traditional cuisine at reasonable prices. Other specialties are stuffed zucchini flowers, snails in rosemary tomato sauce, good quality grilled octopus, cuttlefish in wine, keftés, or swordfish. The fresh fish is brought daily by his fishing buddies from Ierapetra. Map in French. Wifi.
RESTAURANT FLISVOS
Read moreThis family-run taverna is located on the small coastal road between Grikos and Petra bays. Overlooking both bays, it offers splendid views of the surrounding area and the islet of Tragonisi. It's a great place to sit back and sip a fresh ouzo, accompanied by traditional fare such as baked chickpeas, delicious stuffed zucchini flowers or a tasty eggplant imam. Lovers of grilled fish and meat will not be disappointed. Live traditional music on certain evenings.
AKROGIALI RESTAURANT
Read moreAt the entrance to Aghios Antonios, this family-run restaurant has set up tables overlooking the sea. The family who run the establishment are adorable, as is the service. The speciality of the place is twofold: on the one hand, traditional grilled meats, with delicious spit-roasted meats in particular; and on the other, a modern option with... sushi! That's right, here you can order your raw fish the Tilos way, not for the mastery of Japanese technique, but for the freshness of the fish! Good seafood dishes too.
DIETHNES
Read moreAway from the noise of the square, in the main street of Sparta, this small unpretentious restaurant offers a tasty cuisine as well as a small indoor garden in a quiet area. Pork cooked with fresh vegetables (green beans, eggplants) is excellent such as baked pork with potatoes, lamb in lemon and fresh oregano sauce, steamed meatballs and local chicken with cheese and onion. The lamb chops are also very good! The welcome is charming and the prices moderate.
KATERINA
Read moreIt is one of the old taverns of the island, with a flowered terrace, overlooking the cove. What a location and what a view! We are also delighted by what there is in the plate: family cooking based on mezzes, vegetable dumplings, simmered dishes of lamb or rabbit... The cuisine is beautiful, and the products are mostly from their own garden. Excellent sfougata, croquettes with fresh cheese and nutmeg. Don't miss the oven-roasted pork with potatoes either. And if the charm is there, you can rent some rooms...
MARIO RESTAURANT
Read moreOpened in 1982 in the Monolithos region, Mario's restaurant has become famous in Santorini for its authentic and traditional Greek cuisine. Here, we work with love and respect for the best specialities of the whole Aegean region, with freshness, closeness, authenticity and audacity as our watchwords! Moreover the restaurant can accommodate up to 450 people, making it one of the best places on the island to enjoy a dinner by the beach but also to organize an event... like a wedding. Atmosphere guaranteed!
DODO'S SANTORINI
Read moreOn the beach of Périvolos near Perissa, this fish and seafood restaurant is a nice surprise. But it cannot be reduced to seafood, moussaka, for example, is delicious. We appreciate the pretty platform with the bar and the swimming pool on the beach, an ideal setting for resting outside the hustle and bustle of Fira. In addition, Edmond the French-speaking boss offers sun loungers to all French people! A good listener...
PLATANOS
Read moreA good sign here: the majority of the customers are Greek and the restaurant does not need to open in the evening. A few tables shaded by two large plane trees await visitors without a reel. Here, the daily specials (soutsoukakia, gemista and other moussakas) leave very, very quickly. We probably tasted one of the best pasticios on the island. Whose recipe is it? Mystery... We can guess that the establishment, which opened in the last century, has seen a few generations of people come and go. Really an excellent value for money.
TAVERNA TZITZIFIES
Read moreIf you push your waterfront walk a little further north, passing Romaikos, you will arrive in this relaxed family tavern, and especially the tables laid on the sand. Leaving the centre of Myrina, we go back in time a little bit with customs as we like them. Here, you can choose your daily specials from your mother's kitchen across the street (salads, meatballs, delicious vine leaves...). Open all day long, the place is also ideal for a drink or coffee between two dives.
OSTRIA NAXOS RESTAURANT
Read moreRefined cuisine and breathtaking views... You can have lunch or dinner there, and enjoy the beach at its feet. Like the sophisticated hotel it depends on, this restaurant with gastronomic impulses is also one of the best on the island with notably very good fresh fish to choose from in the kitchen. Without being a guest of the hotel, one can come here for a madness (a lobster) or for a more affordable seafood risotto preceded, for example, by a carpaccio of octopus... And each time, the friendliness of the staff is remarkable.
KALAFATIS
Read moreThis small establishment has been part of the décor since 1945. This is a wooden bridge, on the dock, in the harbour. On the menu, stews, meat pies, delicious moussakas, but especially the lamb kleftiko, a beautiful piece of charcoal baked meat.
MANTZOURANA
Read moreOverlooking the main street at the central square, this is undoubtedly the best souvlaki and gyros in town. Tourists flock here on the roof terrace, but so do the locals, for the Greek sandwiches to take away and the good grilled meats. A very simple address, like any good psitopoleion, as they call the establishments dedicated to grilled meat in Greece. We come here at the beginning of the evening to have a gyros in the belly while watching the world go by, before going out for a drink in the alleys below.

MARGETIS
Read moreThe most popular place in town, and not only among tourists, with only a few tables on the terrace (opposite Skyros Travel). In this small typical Greek tavern, you will taste a good traditional cuisine, sitting under a charming mulberry tree. The place is especially known for its lamb chops (among other grilled meats), its delicious grilled fish or its kid with lemon. But vegetarians will be delighted by a set of tasty mezzes, and without meat. Pleasant atmosphere and warm service.
TAVERNE VAGIAS

The grannies in cuisine concoct succulent light meals: eggplants roasted with feta, kayianas (a dish containing eggs, of tomato and feta), liver of beef, dandelions cooked with gray beans (mavromatika)... An address to be tested!
TSAROUCHAS
Read more40 m northwest of the Roman forum, this real institution since 1952 awaits you at the corner of Bit Pazar (flea market filled with restaurants and bars for students). In a now modern setting, we prepare here the traditional Balkan tripe soup (pastas) supposed to cure hangovers, but also typical Greek dishes to choose yourself in front. The tzouzoukakia (meatballs in tomato sauce) were among the best in the country. Fast service, terrace on the street
TO IGGLIS
Read moreFounded in 1914, this tiny tavern, emblematic of Ano Poli, is now run by a young and dynamic team. Grandmother's style dishes (pork neck with mashed pork and cooking juices) and Anatolian recipes: a long, super strong green pepper to accompany fresh cheeses, cumin falafels, etc. All this can be enjoyed while sipping tsipouro under a pleasant arbour (heated terrace in winter). You can end with a coffee on the panoramic roof of the Little Big House hostel (100 m above) or at the other good tavern, Stassi, on the square below.
REDIVIVA
Read moreIn Tsinari (from the Turkish çinar, "plane tree") there are three of the most pleasant restaurants in the city: Tsinari (the oldest tavern, dating from 1905), Pritanio and the Rediviva cooperative. The latter is distinguished by its cuisine made from 100% local and often organic products. Succulent mezzés with varied textures, a fantastic selection of Greek cheeses enhanced with onion confit or wild herbs, rustic dishes with Mediterranean influences (Jewish recipes from Thessaloniki, borrowed from the Maghreb, etc.). Terrace

And the nine-course tasting menu is incredible: oysters with herb and kiwi emulsion, duck breast with rosemary, cod confit à l'égéenne... You're in for an unforgettable evening.
PRIMAVERA
Read moreA good restaurant near the sea with a nice shaded terrace. You will be with your feet in the water, almost literally, which gives this restaurant with its Italian accents an extra romantic feel. The menu is more Greek than the name of the establishment suggests but does not disappoint: gavros (anchovies), sardines and grilled octopus are on the menu. The menu is in Greek, English and French. There is plenty of choice with quality products. Perfect reception and service, professional and friendly.
LIOFAGOS
Read moreIt's like the tavern sitting on the beach, abandoned. Opened in the 1960s, at the foot of the rocks, this tavern, which remained in its original state, is crowded in summer. Here, the keftedes (meatballs from Kostas) are famous as well as its jugs of local wines. An unmissable address at the end of the beach.
LA BENE PIZZERIA
Read moreEven if the most recommended establishment in the village is a pizza pizzeria, the restaurant remains very authentic. Classic card but homemade pizza cooked in open kitchens. And then, above all, this little view: on the other side of the port, its windows open onto the sea. Beware, it is often stormed!
KERTOS
Read moreKertos is a fish and seafood specialty restaurant. On the promenade of Nea Chora, quietly, facing the sea, you can enjoy lunch and dinner, especially for seafood. Polite servers, good atmosphere, reasonable price: no reason not to go! In July and August you will need to think about booking because it is rare to find space, especially when you are in small group.

TO KAFENEIO STH NOMARHIA
Read moreA meeting place for young students from Rethymno, for young people from the city, for alternative clients... It is a kafeneio (café) of yesteryear where you can quietly drink your coffee, have a drink or satisfy your hunger with simple but good quality meals that are not lacking in flavour. Later in the day, the kafeneio turns into a bar and, with a bit of luck, you can attend improvised or organised concerts of Greek and Cretan music. In any case, the good mood lasts until dawn...
TAVERNE AGKIRA
Read moreTwo very clean and shady terraces overlooking the beach of the small port: this tavern enjoys a good reputation and an unbeatable location. It is frequented by locals as it is renowned for the undeniable quality of its fresh fish, seafood and shellfish. Some carefully prepared Cretan dishes based on local products are also offered in addition to all the tavern classics. We come back mainly for the setting and location, the cuisine is not breathtaking but is very honest.

One comes here for the quality of the menu and the moments of relaxation and conviviality, in the middle of flowerbeds, under the pines and the plane trees. Warm bar, aesthetic restaurant, the whole of this establishment reflects good taste. Impeccable service. A very good address which deserves the turning.
ISIDORA
Read moreWith a full view of the Evoikos golf course, and just a few meters from the Marathon tumulus, this green family tavern is the most flowery in the area! Established in 1959, it offers the opportunity to relax with your feet in the water while tasting delicious dishes. Its speciality: large fresh fish. The traditional Greek stews, salads and dishes are the business of Isidora, the manager. Her husband and children prepare the shellfish, small fish and seafood. A very good kitchen, a very good address which is worth the detour.
MOURIES
Read moreA 15 minute drive from Marmari, this tavern lost in the land is worth a visit. Direction Paradisi for a stop in a family tavern. Far from the coast, there is little or no fish (a few gavros) and mostly meat dishes, some of which are produced here. Beef, pork and even wild boar on certain days. We especially appreciate the place at noon, for its terrace, and the possibilities of stroll which it offers around. Also on the menu, an excellent homemade pita that we recommend you finish at the hotel or the next day.
TA MIRONIA
Read moreSituated on the plateia, a small square with a big old plane tree in the middle, this restaurant offers traditional dishes and excellent mezzés which, in assortment, will make a good meal. On the main square of the village, this cute address offers a revisited and slightly modernised Greek cuisine. You will eat all the traditional dishes of the region, but with a touch of originality. For example, pasta with dry ink, for example, which is not so often found on the Greek islands. Very pleasant, well in the shade.
SALUMERIA

The dishes are refined and you can feel the Italian influence of Patras during the tasting: small steaks with baked potatoes and yoghurt cream, risotto with courgettes and gorgonzola, mushrooms cooked in the oven with goat cheese and wild pork sausages... The wine cellar is also well furnished. Pleasant atmosphere. We chose meat and scallops and both dishes were excellent.
LE ROSÉ
Read moreWithout this bistro, Kolonaki would not be this chic neighborhood in the center of the Greek capital. Le Rosé has just opened its doors at the intersection of a small pedestrian street and the very quiet Kapsali street and is already one of the must-see places in Athens. Characterized as a "special bistro" by its owners, it offers only cold dishes and the pastry of the day: salads, sushi, ceviche, carpaccio, tartar, poke bowl, caviar! The list of wines is very neat. Very good address for an aperitif or a cocktail
AGNANTIO

On the menu: excellent taramokeftedes (fish boulettes) and chortopita chortopita (laminated to herbs). Fine wine list also.
RAKI
Read moreA small institution like we like them near the pedestrian street. If you take the fresh fish of the day, the bill can quickly rise (and rightly so). But you can also eat a few tasty mezzes on the run, such as tomato and mint croquettes, a Santorini speciality, or homemade vine leaves.
I STASI
Read moreThis "mezedopoleio" is aptly named since it literally means "stop". Ideal for us, it's a small dreamy terrace where you can take a break, have an aperitif and eat a few mezzes before going to Igglis, a few steps further up. However, it is often a place to linger for supper. The small plates (of tarama, fava, meatballs, gavros...) stack up in the middle of the raki carafes. For the hungriest of hungers, the liver plates are excellent. You have to go together to share as many small dishes as possible.
ANTAMOMA
Read moreGeorge, the young creator of this restaurant, which opened in 2014, has very quickly managed to share his enthusiasm and his talent as a cook. And despite its location slightly set back from the harbour, it fills up every night. Simple but delicious cuisine, with a clever mix of local products and flavours. Special mention for the meats. Professional staff. Prices are very affordable. Do not hesitate to ask to meet him and share his kindness. The establishment also runs the Anoi Bar Bistro upstairs, with a rooftop.

POMMES

The chef of a well-known fish restaurant has opened his own restaurant dedicated to street food. And street food doesn't mean fast food. Here, every dish is meticulously prepared and laid out: the fries are cooked in three stages, and topped with cheese, herbs and other toppings. The burgers are also excellent. Try the crème brûlée for dessert.
