There is a succulent tavern inland in the village of Vafes, which can be reached via tiny winding country roads. But it's worth the effort! Here time stands still and you feel like you're deep in Crete. You will eat in the quiet stone courtyard of a recently restored old monastery. On the menu: fresh mushrooms from the region, antikristo (pieces of lamb cooked slowly around an ember), tzatziki prepared with local yoghurt, etc. Local wine in a pitcher and raki to drink in moderation!

We had a wonderful dinner here of traditional Cretan food, expertly prepared by the owner. Seeing the upstairs old taverna is a special treat. The lamb in yogurt is not to be missed! Thank you for a wonderful experience.

Με δύο λόγια ήταν εξαιρετικό! Οι μεζέδες και τα κυρίως ήταν το ένα καλύτερο από το άλλο. Μανιτάρια, λουκάνικα, σαλάτες, κυρίως όλα αξιοπρεπή, όχι ... τουριστικά! Η θέση δίπλα στο τζάκι συνιστάται!

Wir haben mehrmals in unserem Urlaub in Vafes die überwältigende und absolut herzliche Gastfreundschaftlichkeit von Vasili und seiner Frau genossen.
Das Essen, richtige traditionelle kretanische Küche (kein 08/15 Touri Essen) war jedesmal mega leggah ????????????????????????????
