Every year, during the month of July and for about 15 days, the São Carlos Theater Square, in Chiado, becomes a stage for live entertainment. The Queima das Fitas (Burning of the Ribbons) festival was born around 1920, when the graduating students symbolically gave their academic records to their fellow students who had just started their final year. The "Feast and Vigil in Honor of Santa Bárbara and the Miners" takes place every year in Santa Bárbara de Padrões, in the municipality of Castro Verde. Religious festivities, performances by artists of all kinds, storytelling, local handicrafts and the miners' lunch... these events are open to all and form part of a tradition that is the pride of this small parish.
