LA MARMITA
Read moreRenovated a few years ago (more space and light, with a second floor flanked by a small terrace for smokers), this address is as colourful and warm as ever. For very reasonable prices, Alfredo and his wife Lorena (they speak good French) offer a mixed menu that inspires the taste buds (it changes every six months). Ceviche or garlic soup as a starter, rabbit stew or guanaco to continue... it's a treat. Very popular, even with locals: remember to book in the evening.
CAFÉ DEL PINTOR
Read moreThis small space, whose walls are covered with paintings and frescoes, gives the impression of entering the home of friends with obvious artistic talents! Inside, the charm is palpable: the staff are very welcoming and pleasant, as is the atmosphere of the place. Rodrigo's service is just right, warm and smiling. The reineta with mushroom risotto is a delight, as is the chicken supreme with sautéed vegetables. An excellent address to discover that remains, even with the passing years, one of our favorites.
CIRUS BAR
Read moreThis resto-bar offers typical Chilean cuisine with abundant quantities! Pastel de choclo, pichanga, chuletas... It's not author's cooking, but you can eat all you want and the homemade food is pretty good. If we appreciate this address, it is above all for the warm and relaxed atmosphere and the very attentive welcome of Marcelo, the owner! The service is young and dynamic, and there are good homemade beers. A nice place to discover with friends during the festive weekend evenings.
EL MERCADITO
Read moreVery nice little restaurant without pretension, located in front of the sea... which is reflected in the plate! The chef renews his menu every week according to the fishing season and offers a selection of elaborate dishes. The menu varies but some of the most popular dishes remain the same: salmon ceviche, grilled octopus, fresh oysters, and pisco sour. Most of the products offered are from Chiloé or the region: local freshness guaranteed! The greediest will love the brownie and its ice cream. An address with an excellent quality-price ratio.
LA FLOR DE CHILE
Read moreOpen since 1930, this establishment offers typical, hearty dishes. In a traditional, family atmosphere, sit out on the terrace, which is particularly pleasant in summer. The menu offers a wide range of options, from typical dishes to empanadas, from the famous chorillanas to simple, refreshing salads. The bric-a-brac decor is reminiscent of Valparaíso, creating a warm and surprising atmosphere. Prices are affordable and stomachs are full! One of our favorite places to eat with family and friends.
CAFE LA ULTIMA FRONTERA
Read moreInside or on the terrace, this restaurant with its green and purple façade, offers good food in a bohemian and artistic atmosphere. A la carte, vegetarian dishes, fruit juices, good selection of homemade beers and huge sandwiches. Our preference is still for good and delicious burgers, opt for the Fatboy or the Gran Pit. The place is often crowded with Chileans and locals, especially in high season, which can sometimes make the waiting time excessive! One of our best addresses in town, healthy and warm.
LA CONCEPCIÓN
Read moreAt first glance, the place seems rather ordinary, but once you step inside, you find yourself in one of the city's finest restaurants! You'll find traditional Chilean dishes inspired by Italian cuisine: try the centolla ravioli, ostiones a la parmesana or ceviche de locos. Original and refined, the dishes, served under cloche, are excellent value for money, and the service is fast. Don't forget to enjoy the view over Valparaiso Bay by asking for a seat on the terrace. Home-made breads and organic butters.
THE SINGULAR RESTAURANT
Read moreIn an exceptional setting, on the edge of the fjord, you will discover the succulent French fusion cuisine of Chef Hernán Basso, a true cordon bleu. Let yourself be seduced by the hare à l'escabèche, the homemade smoked salmon or the giant crab salad; continue with a divine fillet of guanaco, a southern whiting, a lamb mouse with Roquefort and red wine). Or would you rather have beef or lamb? In any case, be sure to leave room for desserts: the lemon and strawberry tart from Natales and the vanilla and manjar millefeuille are exquisite!
FAUNA
Read moreWe especially appreciate its large sunny terrace with a panoramic view of Valparaíso. Salads, sandwiches and delicious tablas (try the Playa Ancha with seafood) are served. The dishes are varied, although not very copious, but there is something for everyone. Our advice? Pair the fish of the day with the seaweed risotto. The sandwiches will satisfy your appetite at lunchtime, while the evening dishes invite you to enjoy the setting and to savour the porteña music of the local bands that sometimes come to perform.
EL PIMENTON
Read moreThe decor, bohemian and cheerfully zany, exudes a real identity that we love! The atmosphere, with friends and family, is relaxed and friendly. And the cuisine, typically Chilean and well prepared: huge empanadas, pastel de choclo, chorrillana (one of the best in Valpo, in the evening only), vegetarian lasagna, ceviche... We come back with pleasure, both at lunchtime and in the evening to have a drink with friends. All served with care and simplicity! In short, you will enjoy yourself and you will have no choice but to return!
LAS DELICIAS DE CARMEN
Read moreOne of the best places to taste the typical Chilean cuisine and eat with the locals. They offer very good empanadas with cheese, tomato and basil and pizzas, ajiaco con ensalada, cazuela vacuno, ceviche, charquicán, pastel de choclo, costillar de cerdo, lomo a lo pobre, chupe de locos... The portions are generous, the service is efficient and the atmosphere friendly. This is what you might call a charming "boui-boui", an authentic place where you can enjoy yourself without breaking the bank.
MERCADO CENTRAL
Read moreOn the menu: fish and seafood, of course, but also empanadas and other typical Chilean dishes. The best known local is Donde Augusto, but be careful, however, avoid restaurant employees who will insist on offering you a table. Some restaurants serve dishes at unreasonable prices. Others, a little less central, offer dishes that are often cheaper and just as good. Don't hesitate to get lost in the alleys in search of more authentic and less "tourist trap" addresses.
LA LUNA
Read moreThis restaurant, all in yellow and blue and pleasantly decorated, with its large shelves full of wine bottles, offers a varied menu and fairly well prepared dishes. The speciality: the chupe de centolla: a succulent giant crab gratin ! Most of the time everything is very good and the menu is rather cheap: starter, main course, dessert and glass of wine, a good value for money! Don't forget to place your place of origin on the map! A classic, often crowded: sometimes you have to wait a long time before you get served.
EL INTERNADO
Read moreCreated by the owners of Fauna, this former boarding school is a restaurant, bar and cultural centre all in one. The burgers, a speciality of the house, are particularly tasty and the lunch menu is good value for money. You can enjoy your food either inside or on the balcony outside. The service is particularly friendly and attentive. A special address where you come more for the experimental setting and the breathtaking view of the cerros. Good atmosphere on weekends for a dinner with friends.
AMBROSIA BISTRO
Read moreCarolina Baza, a Chilean chef trained in Paris, offers creative cuisine inspired by the concept of bistronomy. Prices are low for the quality offered, and the staff are very attentive. You'll eat great crab pasta, lamb stew, beef cheeks and the tiramisu is one of the best in town! If you're tempted by everything and don't know what to choose, the waiters offer excellent advice. Don't forget to pair your dishes with one of the remarkable wines on offer. The chef also owns Ambrosía, a restaurant on the Vicatura side.
KURANTON
Read moreAnother address to enjoy the typical cuisine of Chiloé! We take the same unmissable dishes of the island and start again: it is here that everyone comes to try the famous curanto, or very fresh and tasty seafood. The decoration is original and typical, we find countless paintings that refer to the Chiloé culture. The view of the bay adds a very pleasant picturesque touch. The cuisine is good, even if it is not unforgettable, but we appreciate the honest prices and the small dishes that are homemade.
BAR NACIONAL
Read moreThe workers in the centre of Santiago have long since adopted this small, lively place that serves very good Chilean casera (home-made) cuisine: lomo a lo pobre, caldo de gallito, empanadas... at prices that are, after all, honest. The lunch menu is a good choice, quite correct and at a low price. A good option to blend in with the daily life and discussions of the locals. The establishment has three other addresses in the neighborhoods of Las Condes, calle Matias Cousino 54 and calle Bandera 317.
CASINO SOCIAL J. CRUZ
Read moreAt the bottom of a dead end, a real little discovery. Crucifixes and missiles cohabit in a jumble of knick-knacks, each one as incongruous as the next. The tables and walls are the guestbook of the house, where each visitor leaves a small trace of his passage. It is here that the famous chorrillana (pieces of beef, fried onions, sausages, eggs and chips) would have been invented... Alas, if the place is worth a look, the quality of the food is not up to the standard, but it's still good enough to try the Chilean gastronomy!
CAFE DEL POETA
Read moreA classic decoration for one of the best cafés in the city. Very typical, it is identifiable by its beautiful colored facade. Here, it is not a high place of the Chilean gastronomy, however the menu remains not very expensive the midday and the dishes proposed are of quality. The menus include drinks and there are vegetarian options. All this is always accompanied by friendly and smiling service. The terrace on the square is very popular in summer, a little set back from the street. In short, simplicity is the order of the day and the warmth is real.
