Stay : The tour of Uruguay in 17 days
Those who have more than a week in the country can immerse themselves in the campo where the parilladas are more hearty; enjoy the virgin beaches and natural lagoons of the department of Rocha, which is fashionable but not as trendy and flashy as the very posh Punta del Este. On the Uruguay River, you can enjoy charming towns such as Fray Bentos, Paysandu or Salto.

In Montevideo, visit the historical districts of Palermo and Barrio Sur, stroll along the rambla, along the beach and discover Pocitos. Overnight stay in Montevideo; this is an opportunity to spend an evening in a tanguería or at the theater (Solís for example).
Day 10: Montevideo and road
Steps: Piriapolis, Punta Del Este, La Barra - Manantiales
Half day in Montevideo - cultural visits, shopping... - then direction Punta del Este in the afternoon to arrive at the end of the day (1 hour 30 minutes drive). We advise you to find accommodation in La Barra for example, while families and elderly people will prefer Piriápolis, a seaside resort with a more subtle charm.
Day 11: Farniente
Steps: La Paloma, La Pedrera
We enter the department of Rocha - stop at La Paloma or La Pedrera to enjoy the beach, the sun and the sea, or the Caves of Salamanca. Relaxation and possibly a walk in the lagoons at the end of the day. Night on site.

Day trip to Cabo Polonio (get there as early as possible to enjoy the day), a biosphere reserve where an important colony of sea wolves lives all year long. Get into a truck at the entrance of the park to drive the 7 km that separate you from the cape. Then you can enjoy this piece of land where time seems to have stopped. If you can spend a night there, don't miss it: calm, starry sky (because no light pollution), noise of the sea... If you have to go back on the road, take the direction of Punta del Diablo (east).
Day 13: Punta del Diablo
Steps: Punta Del Este, Punta Del Diablo
Another day in Cabo Polonio then direction Punta del Diablo in the afternoon and night there. Or a whole day in Punta del Diablo if you arrived the day before. Another popular seaside resort in summer, but quieter than Punta del Este (and more authentic): beach and nice restaurants.

FORTALEZA SANTA TERESA

From there we go to Chuy, on the Brazilian border; visit the fort of San Miguel. In Chuy, it is the occasion to do some shopping: the prices are unbeatable! It is better to return to Punta del Diablo to spend the night, the place is more pleasant.
FUERTE DE SAN MIGUEL
Day 16: Minas
Steps: Minas
The hour of the return rang. To take the road which passes by Minas (history to change), and we shall stop there besides. Arrival in the beginning of evening in Montevideo.
