Start your trip with a few days in Boston and work your way around. The easiest way is to take the ferry from the docks to Salem and Provincetown. On the fifth or sixth day of your trip, rent a car to discover Rhode Island, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. Choose to return the car in Boston, or directly to the airport.

Day 1: Boston

Steps: Boston

Put your bags down and start enjoying the City of Higher Learning. For an immediate immersion into the city, start with the Freedom Trail. This walking tour will take you past some of the city's most beautiful buildings to learn about the city's history. Take the opportunity to stop for a bite to eat in the North End. Continue your visit, without missing the Faneuil Market, not far from where you can enjoy a beer in an Irish pub in the evening.

Day 2: Boston and Cambridge

Pass the Few Bridge and browse Harvard's university site in a day. Choose the tourist bus, which will take you to the main points of interest. In the evening, The Liberty Hotel has a drink in this former prison, which became one of the most luxurious establishments in the city.

Day 3: Boston Museums and Art Galleries

Steps: Beacon, Saint Petersburg, Gardner

Head south of the city to the Museum of Fine Arts, one of the city's most beautiful museums. Not far from there is the Isabella Stewart Gardner, a small haven of peace, to visit imperatively. For shopping enthusiasts, end your day on Beacon Street, where international brands and local designers mingle.

Day 4: Excursion from Boston to the city of Salem

It takes you an hour to reach the city of witches by ferry. Plan a departure early in the morning for a late return in the evening. If the small town has many museums, all is worth a visit! Choose the largest, and most famous, PEM (Peabody Essex Museum). Then go to discover the history of the city and take a little fright by visiting the Witches Museum.

Day 5: Cape Cod and Provincetown

A stay in Boston offers a great opportunity to discover Provincetown, on Cape Cod. A town that the locals call P-town. It is the favorite seaside destination of many Bostonians. The peninsula covers 17 hectares and includes long, beautiful beaches and pretty fishing villages.

Day 6: Rhode Island and Newport

In this tiny state there are many testimonies of the rich maritime trade and industrial past of the East Coast. Head to the seaside resort of Newport for a day of strolling along Bellevue Avenue. Take in the ocean views and stop off at the homes of billionaires that are now open to the public.

Day 7: New Haven and Yale University

The entire city of New Haven, Connecticut, is marked by the presence of the prestigious university for three centuries. It is necessary to stop there to understand that in spite of a recent history, the United States does not have any less buildings which forged the identity of the country.

Day 8: On the roads of Vermont

Steps: Stowe

Drive through Massachusetts and up north to Vermont. In winter, you'll want to head to the charming ski resort of Stowe. In the summer, you'll want to drive along Routes 100 and 17, which pass through some of the state's most beautiful scenery.

Day 9: Burlington and Shelburne

Steps: Burlington

Among the must-sees are the Shelburne Museum and the Shelburne Farms. Two sites that will leave you with a long lasting memory of the cultural richness of the region. A short tour of Burlington 's pedestrianised downtown area and a drink at the Hotel Vermont will bring your stroll to a close.

Day 10: Winnipesaukee and Wolfeboro

Steps: Wolfeboro, Meredith

Travel through the North-East Kingdom region to Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire. Wolfeboro and Meredith are among the oldest tourist resorts in the country. People come here in the summer to enjoy the water and walk the streets to see the beautiful homes. Many celebrities come to stay here in the summer.

Day 11: White Mountains

Steps: Franconia

Don't hesitate to take a drive down the winding roads of New Hampshire towards Franconia. For the best experience, spend a night perched on the mountain at the end of the world and wake up to the sight of falling leaves in the fall.

Day 12: Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park

Steps: Bar Harbor

Plan a day's drive to Bar Harbor, Maine. You will drive through the vast forests of the region and will sometimes feel as if you are alone in the world. A long day's drive through the wilderness of Maine's forests awaits you as you head for Acadia National Park.

Day 13: Acadia National Park

Steps: Acadia National Park

Allow a full day to drive through the national park. If the weather is clear, climb to the top of Cadillac Mountain for an amazing view.

Day 14: Camden, a charming seaside resort

Drive along the coast and stop off in Camden. Stroll down the small high street with a lobster roll and browse the art galleries.

Day 15: Return to Boston
