Bar Harbor is a small summer town where Americans and Quebecers love to stroll. You can see them on the harbor, strolling around and enjoying homemade ice cream. Here, summer and winter alike, there's a holiday atmosphere: families come here to watch whales and taste lobsters while contemplating the pretty houses. For a long time, the city was the resort of the rich East Coast industrialists who, throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, built luxurious homes here. It is also a good base camp for excursions into Acadia National Park. The village and the park are located on Mount Desert Island, from which rise 26 mountains bathed by the ocean and 4 large lakes.
