A charming little coastal town that has always attracted a wealthy and well-to-do population every summer to enjoy its gentle way of life. Among the personalities who have made it their home are members of the Rockefeller family, who own summer residences, and the novelist Marguerite Yourcenar, whose house, called Petite Plaisance, can be visited. She loved this area of Maine so much that she spent almost 40 years there until her death in 1987. She is buried nearby at Brookside Cemetery. To reach the town from Bar Harbor, you have to take Route 233 to join Route 198 to Northeast Harbor.
