Read moreThe Midsummer Festival (Jóansøka) is a must in Suðuroy. It alternates between even-numbered years in Vágur and odd-numbered years in Tvøroyri. The main attractions take place on Saturday, including the rowing competition (which kicks off with children's rowing at around 1 p.m.), but there are also activities from Friday to Sunday (art exhibitions, children's activities and cultural events).

Read moreMarch 12, St. Gregory's Day, celebrates the return of the oystercatcher to the archipelago. The Faroe Islands' national bird, the oystercatcher is not hunted. It is a common breeder, numbering around 10,000 pairs. At the beginning of March, the sky fills with their calls, heralding the return of long, bright days. Also known as the oystercatcher, it has become a symbol of national heroism. The poet Nólsoyar Páll (Páll Poulsen Nolsøe, 1766-1809) evokes it in his famous ballad Fuglakvaeði(The Ballad of the Birds).

Read moreIf you want to experience a unique New Year's Eve, starting with a hike and ending with a fireworks explosion, head to Tvøroyri. The day usually starts with a hike up Mount Oyrnafjall. As evening falls, the magic of street lighting takes over, using tin cans as candle holders. The torchlight procession ends with a bonfire, usually located near the Trongisvágur sports hall. At midnight, the horizon lights up under the spray of fireworks. Afterwards, the festivities committee invites everyone to come and enjoy a friendly drink and sandwiches. The party usually goes on until the early hours, with concerts in some of Suðuroy's halls and private parties.

Open throughout December, the skating rink is the ideal place to enjoy a fun family activity. Discover the Christmas village in the SMS shopping center (elves, animals, colorful trees, illuminated decorations...). And then, take a bath with the locals! It's the traditional Sunday swim. Go for a swim in the ocean, an invigorating and unique experience. The cold water, around 5 degrees, is excellent for wrinkles and toning!
